Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work on a Canon T3i?

A: The Bolt VM-110 Ring Light is compatible with the Canon T3i. It comes with a set of adapter rings (49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, and 77mm) which allow you to attach the ring light on to the lens.

Q: 2. Will this fit on a Sony A77?

A: You would need an adapter to use the Bolt VM-110 LED Macro Ring Light on the Sony A77, such as the Vello Sony Hot Shoe to Standard Hot Shoe Adapter (B&H # VEHSACSC).

Q: 3. I have a Canon 60D with a 55mm lens. Will this lighting work for me here?

A: Yes, it will work with your Canon 60D and your lens with a 55mm diameter. The light includes a 55mm ring adapter.

Q: 4. Are there any 82mm Adaptor Ring to use for the Canon 24-70mm lens?

A: You will have to get a step down ring, 82-77. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2RjAmIk

Q: 5. I have an Olympus micro 4/3 and an Oly 60mm macro lens, with a diameter of 46mm. I also have a 46 to 58mm adapter. Will it work with that configuration? Thank you very much for your response (Gabriel, from Argentina)

A: Yes, it will work but a 46-49mm step ring would be better, more streamlined without having a large step ring on the front element.

Q: 6. WHAT COLOR TEMPERATURE IS THIS LIGHT?

A: 3000-15000K (using filters)

Q: 7. How much light does this light put out? To say the Guide No. is 15'/4.7m at ISO 100 does not answer the question. Guide Numbers are useful for flash, because the flash duration is far less than the shutter speed required for flash sync, and therefore does not effect the exposure (For the record, the relevant calculation for manual flash exposure is Aperture = GN divided by distance). For a continuous light source, exposure time is a relevant factor, and I would need to know the brightness of the light to calculate the exposure time and aperture as well as distance and ISO to get the correct exposure.Lux or EV at a certain distance would be appropriate, or you could give me a Guide Number that includes a certain exposure time, for example 1/100 sec.Typically a ring light is used for macro photography at a very short distance. At a very short distance light falloff due to the inverse square law is small. On the other hand Depth of Field is extremely small at large magnifications, requiring a very small aperture of F22 or smaller. So plenty of light is needed. So I come back to my question - how much light does this device produce? I am interested, but need to know before I decide to buy.

A: Hello David - I have had this product for a couple of years now. I have found it to be useful on many occasions, including adding the light to the camera for great fill flash outdoors on folks. The LEDS are split into all on, left or right banks of LEDS. Or, from a macro ring-flash POV the unit is functional and adds sufficient light when using it for macro work. THE MAIN THING TO CONSIDER is that this is a VERY PLASTIC unit. Including the vast number of lens-rings. It is doubtful that the unit would survive a fall to the ground - AND - you only have one shot at the threads on the plastic rings... For the money however, I found a safe place for the light to live in a gadget bag, so I keep it warm, safe, and dry. All in all, If you plan to make this a go-to flash, my opinion is keep looking and find a unit is built to handle heavy use. Otherwise, this is a little gem to have when you realize that you need it. Hope that helps! Kevin

Q: 8. Will this ring light properly mount on the hot shoe & sync with my Panasonic GH3?

A: Yes, this ring light will mount on your cameras hot shoe, and comes with lens filter adapters in every conventional size from 49-77mm. There is no sync issue as this is a light, not a flash, so it is the same as shooting in any situation with available light.

Q: 9. Does this product support a specific brand, such as Canon, or any camera with a hot shoe? Thanks.

A: Being that this is a continuous light, and not a flash/strobe TTL is of no issue here. TTL only pertains to flashes and strobes. Using this device would be essentially the same as working under any other natural light source such as the sun or a lamp etc. You can set your camera to program modes or manual modes to expose with whichever you prefer and it will render great results. The only cameras the device would not be able mount the base to are the Sony Alpha and older Minolta cameras with the special Sony/Minolta shoe.

Q: 10. I have Sony A58 - do I need hot shoe adapter?

A: From a Sony A58 tech review, Hot shoe. As noted previously, the external flash hot shoe has been entirely replaced. Gone is the Konica Minolta-derived proprietary hot shoe that's featured on most previous Sony Alpha cameras, replaced with the new Multi Interface hot shoe. This not only supports standard flashes, but also integrates 21 additional pins embedded at the front of the shoe for interfacing all manner of accessories to the camera.
