Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will I be able to use the start / stop function on the a7S II? If so, what cable will I need? The Micro-D HDMI output is occupied by an Atomos Shogun, if that has anything to do with it.

A: Remote video start/stop for DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras generally does not exist. The issue is that for most cameras, which includes the a7S II, the video button is on an separate, non-connected circuit and cannot be activated except by a manual press of the button. Even the Sony WiFi app cannot activate video recording. I am afraid that we will have to wait for a model change before we can start using the MicroRemote on a a7 camera.

Q: 2. Does this kit come with the needed cables? Also if I want to use this with a Movi Pro and the Freefly remote is there anything else I would need beyond this kit?

A: Depends on the Movi. We use this with our Movi M5 and Movi controller, less stuff needed for the new Movi Pro. You will probably need to order a receiver for your remote fro Freefly if it is an older Movi. They work very well but this is the bottom of the barrel for wireless focus so don't expect to film with this and sound. We produce only stock footage without audio. If I had to be recording audio this motor is pretty noisy.

Q: 3. I want to use a NIKKOR 50mm f/1.2 on my Canon 6d. Will this adaptor work?

A: Hi John! Yes, our Nikon to Canon EF Lens Mount Adapter works with Nikon F Mount lenses, like the Nikkor 50MM. With this adapter, you'll be able to mount the lens onto your Canon 6D EF mount for manual iris and focus control. Here's the online user guide for reference: http://shop.redrockmicro.com/start/assembly_docs/Accessories/NikonAdapterRing_insert.pdf

Q: 4. does the lens retain focus to infinity ? does the lens still focus to infinity?

A: Yes. Infinity is good. This is a one time adapter. It is not permanent, but you want to apply it and the tiny set screws in a controlled environment. Then leave the adapter on. For that task it works well.

Q: 5. Will these cables work with the Ronin M?

A: Hi Stephanie - thanks for asking. Yes the flexCable wireless kit works for all Ronins including Ronin M

Q: 6. in my order, I did not receive instructions or anything on how to apply and put in screws. can I receive some instructions to ensure I'm applying it correctly?

A: Hi Jennifer- please contact our support group at support@redrockmicro.com - BH provides this as a pre-sales resource to answer questions prior to buying. The good folks in support can answer this question for you

Q: 7. I see that the basestation is wireless ready , does that mean it will connect and work with the handheld wireless remote?

A: Hi Anthony - yes that is correct. just add this hand unit (you can purchase it later) and its ready for wireless:a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1014379-REG/redrock_micro_3_114_0001_microremote_handheld_wireless_focus.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1014379-REG/redrock_micro_3_114_0001_microremote_handheld_wireless_focus.html/aplease note the picture of the hand unit is outdated - the new version is slimmer and smaller

Q: 8. If I use this with a 5d, will the lens communicate with the body? i.e., will autofocus work, will I see exposure information, will it work in movie mode? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, through my personal experience, I have found that the adapter only works with Nikon glass that does NOT have the electronic features. There aren't any electrical connections on the mount itself. Hope this helps

Q: 9. Looking to use this with Cinema glass on a Sony A7s I. Is there a start stop cable for the Sony a7s to trigger direct from the remote?

A: Redrock wants you to contact them regarding custom cables. support@redrockmicro.com.

Q: 10. Do you still need a battery pack of some kind to power it? If so what's the cheapest and lightest battery option?

A: Hi Dane - yes the microRemote does require power from an external source. You have a lot of options hereIf you are using an existing gimbal, you can often tap into the power provided from the gimbal's lipo battery (make sure you have the correct cable there). DJI, Freefly, and Letus are among the options thereif you need a standalone battery, you can use any p-tap compatible 12-14.4v battery. We often recommend switronix powerBase (there are many options, make sure to choose the one that is right for you) or a swit battery for sony camcorders with built-in p-tap like this one a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1027696-REG/swit_s_8u63_li_ion_rechargeable_battery.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1027696-REG/swit_s_8u63_li_ion_rechargeable_battery.html/ayou can also ask any BH representative for a battery solution that is 12-18vDC, has a built-in p-tap battery source, and does not require a plate to use. Hope that helps
