The OCTAPAD SPD-30 from Roland is a digital percussion instrument with built-in sounds and effects, a phrase looping functionality, and the ability to control external MIDI devices and software instruments via USB connectivity. It has 8 isolated drum pads that utilize Roland's advanced V-Drum technology, and the ability to expand with inputs for four pads, triggers, and pedals.

The internal sounds offer you 99 different drum kits covering a wide range of percussion styles. There are a total of 670 instruments, with massive 80-note polyphony. The phase-looping functionality allows you to create and layer up to 3 loops using 3 different drum sets. You can assign multiple drum sounds to each pad to create deep and complex sounds. Synthesizers, basses, and other instruments and samples are included in the internal sounds, so you can really build up entire songs.

The SPD-30 can control traditional sound modules and other instruments with its MIDI I/O interface. It can also be connected to a computer via USB to control software-based instruments. An additional USB port is included to back up your work. The four extra trigger inputs include a dedicated hi-hat controller, so the OCTAPAD SPD-30 can be used as a full drum kit. Drummers can also put Roland's RT series triggers on their acoustic drum heads and blur the line between their electronic and acoustic kits.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I connect this device (out) to a VR3X (in)?

A: That would be possible. You could take the output from the V-1HD and connect it to the Roland VR-3EX's 4th HDMI input. The 4th HDMI input on the VR-3EX can accept an HD signal.

Q: 2. If i want to RECORD, WEBCAST and PREVIEW from the outputs, could I use a hdmi splitter?

A: The Roland V-1HD does have a Preview output so you are good there. Downsteam, you should be able to do what ever you wish with your HDMI signal.

Q: 3. What's the best way to use this unit with 2 cameras coming in, with a computer input that will be running a PowerPoint presentation? Will this switcher scale the incoming computer signal? Thanks in advance!

A: This product has two dedicated 3G SDI inputs, a third channel input that supports 3G SDI or HDMI and a fourth channel HDMI input that also includes scaling. Depending on the outputs your camera offer you can have both of them going into the SDI inputs or have one use the SDI input and one using the HDMI input ( third channel ).

Q: 4. Can it be used with analog signal cameras and live DVD recoders? We are planing to buy this unit, input signals are from two Analog (PAL) camera (Sony DSR-PD170p)conected through the BMD Analog to SDI (#BLMCONHDASDI)Then connecting the Final SDI output of this unit through BMD SDI to Analog (#BLSDIAMC)to a live DVD Recoder. Will this combination work on a live setup? We are planning to shift to SDI cameras in the future

A: Unfortunately the V-1SDI is an HD format only switcher. To input an analog signal you would have to use a signal converter for each signal. The Roland V-40HD does support Analog and HD sources.

Q: 5. I cannot see the sdi output signal neither the pvw nor the pgm. I can sure the hd sdi cable and the hd sdi monitor work well. Please help me solve this problem.

A: So that we may best assist you, please email us. provideo@bhphoto.com.

Q: 6. Does this unit also requires 50fps to 60fps 1080p over SDI ?

A: This unit can handle either 50FPS or 59.94 but not both at the same time nor can it do signal conversion on the fly.

Q: 7. Hi does it work also as a hdmi capture device or would i need one? i use it for live streaming on youtube. If i would like to live stream with two hdmi camera does this device do the job and if my capture card has only got one hdmi imput will it be able to support the roland swithcher in doing the job? Does it work with OBS? thank you

A: The Roland V-1HD does not have any streaming capabilities built-in. However you can connect one of the HDMI outputs to a capture device for streaming to OBS. The Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle, which is B&H # MA100USBHDMI , is compatible with OBS and would be a great choice to pair with this switcher for live streaming. You will be able to connect two HDMI cameras to the switcher and then the switcher to the Magewell for streaming.

Q: 8. I shoot with a 7D connected to Atomos Ninja 2. Can i output from Atomos ninja 2 to the v-1 hd switcher and it will be clean and nice @ 1080p?

A: I am afraid not. First of all you would need to make sure that your camera has a clean HDMI output, such as the 7D Mark II. From there you would need a field recorder with a Loop Out, which the Atomos Ninja 2 does not have. You would need the Ninja Blade which does have a clean HDMI Loop Out.

Q: 9. Will the V1 accept a HDMI signal from Panasonic HDC-TM700? I see 35' as a length for HDMI cables I tried on the Black Magic and it would't accept any HDMI signal from the Panasonic TM700 over 12'. That being the case I returned it since it didn't state that condition.

A: Generally speaking, an HDMI signal is not strong and weakens exponentially with distance traveled. I would blame the distance and the type of HDMI cable before any switcher. If indeed the switcher is not accepting the signal another does, I would still suggest getting a better cable. HDMI signals peter out 30-35' so if you are anywhere near that, you need HDMI cabling with booster circuitry. Please follow the link for a selection of longer distance HDMI cables. http://bhpho.to/1LRl5rv

Q: 10. Does anyone who owns this have an issue with one of the main buttons sticking? I just received my brand new switcher today and Button 1 on the A bus (top row) has a tendency to stick when you press it in all the way (it stays de-pressed). It still works well and if you don't press it in all the way, it's fine. But I can't get the others to stick even if I tried but this one sticks every so often when it's pushed in all the way. It usually pops back up shortly after or you can sort of wiggle it and it'll pop up again, but I can't imagine this is normal...or is it? Outside that it all works flawlessly and I LOVE the iPad app!!

A: The buttons on this unit really should not be be sticking. Feel free to contact us at cs@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a if you feel like this is an issue you'd like addressed.
