I use it on a carbon fiber tripod with a D810 and it holds its own. The ball is very smooth. You can tighten it up then back it off a little and then adjust your equipment. The tension holds the camera and a zoom just fine while adjusting. The knobs are all metal, no rubber, and have a good grip to them. You do not have to kill it when tightening down. Just snug the knob and it will hold. After you hold this little head in your hand and play with it a little, you will love it.
