Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work for a Sony a7s?

A: Yes - as long as you have a mic or sound in jack on your camera.

Q: 2. Will this work with the panasonic gh3 and will it use much of my camera's battery?

A: I have used with the Panasonic GH4. I'm sure it will work the same on the GH3. I does draw power from the camera, but not enough to be worth mentioning.

Q: 3. will the audio better better or equal to the videomic go if I used this on a canon t6i?

A: Better Up close. But the videomic go has more reach. Turn your t6i pre-amp down to 25% or less. Or use a zoom h1

Q: 4. can it be used with the tascam dr-40?

A: I haven't found a way to do that, however if you prove me wrong please let me know

Q: 5. will this one work with the Tascam dr100?

A: The Rode Video Micro requires connection to a 1/8 (3.5mm) mic level input. Unfortunately not available on the Tascam DR-100 recorder.

Q: 6. Will this mic work with my cannon T5?

A: I used it with 5D Mark iii. Works great

Q: 7. will this mic work on the Panasonic hc v700 and the canon HF G40?

A: A camera supplying plug in power is needed to operate the Rode VideoMicro. Only the Panasonic HC-V700 (not the Canon HF-G40) will provide the necessary voltage to power up the mic.

Q: 8. I really need a replacement for this Shotgun Microphone Holder with 1/4"-20 Screw connection for a gimbal?

A: One solution is to use a Vello Cold Shoe Mount with 1/4" Thread, BH #VECS20 along with an Impact 1/4"-20 To 1/4"-20 Adapter Spigot, BH #IMCA110. This combination will allow you to easily connect or detach the mic, and will make use of the excellent Rycote Lyre suspension shock mount that is provided with the microphone.

Q: 9. Will this work with iPad 12.9? If so, what other things do I need to purchase?

A: Yes, you can use the RODE VideoMicro Ultracompact Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone with the iPad 12.9. You will need to use the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP) and you can mount the microphone on a mini tripod like the JOBY GorillaPod 3K Flexible Mini-Tripod with Ball Head Kit (B&H # JOJB01507).

Q: 10. I know that on a7iii the B1M mic will only be analog. what is the differance between analog and digital sound? analog is worse?

A: When the Sony B1M is used in analog mode, the audio signal must undergo more conversion steps, which is not likely to produce an audible difference in quality but is technically less efficient. In addition, adding an analog audio cable between the microphone and camera may introduce noise to the signal.
