Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used to convert an unbalanced mixer out to balanced signal?

A: I'm surprised by the answer from Hosa. I am not a true "audio guy" but my understanding is that a balanced signal requires a cable with three conductors: +, -, and ground. The signal is carried on the + and - conductors and that is why it is more robust than an unbalanced signal. (True audio guys, feel free to correct me if this is wrong.) So if you are starting with an unbalanced signal, this converter will not "create" a balanced signal out of an unbalanced one. All this transformer does is boost the level and convert from XLR to 1/4" connector.

Q: 2. What about 48volt phantom power? Do the mics still get enough juice?

A: The Hosa Technology YXM-101.5 XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Audio Y-Cable is not designed to split signals from microphones directly and therefore may not provide adequate power to a microphone requiring 48 volts.

Q: 3. Can the phoenix connector be removed and another type installed?

A: The PHOENIX connector on the Hosa Technology PHX-206F-BULK Female Phoenix to 3-Pin Female XLR can be removed and replaced by a different type of connector, if so required.

Q: 4. (1) Can you give the specific pin wiring for this cable? I need pins 2-3-1 of the Neutrik XLR wired respectively to the Tip, Ring, and Sleeve of the mini plug for use with a RED Epic microphone input from standard XLR mic out.(2) Is the angle of the cable out of the Neutrik connector user-adjustable to different positions? I would need the cable to outlet at a counterclockwise right angle to the standard configuration shown in the photo.(3) How flexible is the cable? It appears so thick that it would lack malleability in a 1.5 foot length.

A: The Hosa MXM-001.5RS is wired to the standard, Pin 2 to Tip, Pin 3 to Ring, Pin 1 to Sleeve. The XLR connector is non rotating and oriented according to the photo provided. The conductors are 24 gauge allowing some flexibility in the cable.

Q: 5. I'm getting a buzz with this cable connected directly from a microphone to an amp-- anyone else?

A: That is a balanced connector cable for LINE level signals, if you are using that cable to connect a microphone, it is not the correct cable. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828155-REG/Hosa_Technology_HMIC_010HZ_HMIC_010HZ_Pro_Mic_Cable.html This is the correct cable for microphones.

Q: 6. Does this work for recording line-in to a zoom h4n recorder?

A: Yes it should,

Q: 7. SO I can use this cable to go from an SM58 to my cell phone?

A: No. Look at irig products by ikmultimedia.

Q: 8. Can I use this with an audio channel from Professional Broadcast CD/Media Players to a Mixer?

A: Yes it will work with no issue.

Q: 9. What is the color code

A: Is this referring to the internal wiring? We don't readily have a spec for that, so if you are making any modifications, I would test each wire with a multimeter to the corresponding pin. Otherwise if there's an issue, we can replace it under lifetime warranty through info@hosatech.com. Best regards, Hosa Support.

Q: 10. Is this a stereo cable? need it for electric piano to receiver...

A: This is not meant to be stereo cable. However it will work as stereo cable. Just to keep in mind - this cable is more for PA systems or average home studio systems and not of a category for high end audio or hifi audio. This cable seems to have higher resistance than normal stereo cable in my experience.

I am using these in my club for on stage microphones. For the low price, the cables are great. The locking connector doesn't wobble in the mics at all. Outer coating is durable. They work well with our mics.

I use this cables for microphones and Links from speaker to speaker , like any wire no matter how expensive they are , are not meant to tow or pull a car , just take care of them & will give you good years of service and for this price you should get a few.
