A: Fujifilm X-mount cameras have a TTL (through-the-lens) light meter inside the camera that measures the amount of light entering the camera and illuminating the sensor. While the camera will not be able to adjust the aperture on lenses that do not have electronic contacts for communication between the camera and lens, the light meter can still read the amount of light entering the camera and choose an appropriate shutter speed to obtain what the camera determines to be the correct exposure. It is still recommended to set the mode of the camera to either Aperture-priority [A] or Manual [M] when using a fully-manual lens on a Fujifilm X-mount camera.

This lens has no electronic functionality, so there are not really any functions that require "translating" per se, but you will have to set your camera up to shoot "without a lens" as the R-series cameras will not realize there is a lens mount and won't fire without that feature enabled.
