Electro-harmonix V256 Vocoder Pedal With Reflex Tune

$783.60 $1,151.89

The V256 Vocoder Pedal from Electro-Harmonix includes internal synthesizers for easy vocoding without an external instrument. The V256 has nine modes to choose from, each giving you a different sonic palette to work with. In addition, each mode may change the functionality of some of the V256's knobs.

VOX-ROBO Modes 1, 2, and 3 are identical. This provides the flexibility to save three separate ROBO presets. These modes function as standard vocoders using an external instrument as the carrier signal, and in addition have robotic internal synthesizers that can be used as the carrier signal and controlled with the PITCH knob. The Single, Major, and Minor Drone modes have a more natural, musical sounding tones than the robotic modes. You can "play" the internal drone synthesizer using a MIDI keyboard or sequencer.

When the MIC BYPASS footswitch is held down while an instrument is being played, the V256 will freeze whatever is being played through the INST input at the moment the MIC BYPASS button is pressed. This frozen sample can also be saved into a preset. In Transposition mode, the V256 will transpose the vocal signal by an amount determined by the PITCH knob. The BANDS knob can be used to control how quickly the intervals change when controlled by a MIDI input. The BANDS knob can be used to control how quickly the intervals change when controlled by a MIDI input. In Instrument Control mode the V256 will replace the vocal pitch with the pitch of an external instrument. The PITCH knob controls the threshold of how loud the instrument must be in order for the V256 to replace the vocal note.

The Reflex Tune mode allows the V256 to work as an automatic pitch corrector and will quantize the dry vocal pitch to nearest note depending on the scale and key set by the user. The V256 can save one preset for each of the 9 modes. Each preset will pertain directly to the mode you have saved it in. Once a preset is saved, the V256 will remember the preset after power has been disconnected.

The Korg microKORG is an excellent synth. Having remained in production for over 20 years, its status as a constant is determined by its sound and ease of use. I haven't messed with the factory presets but designing your own sounds is a breeze with the intuitive knob layout. The sound engine sounds very natural. I wouldn't say analog because resonance on the filter is markedly digital but there are countless analog-like tones to be had. The oscillators don't start at the same phase with each key press, which makes this much more analog sounding than digital. The polyphony leaves something to be desired because, when making layered patches, you only get two notes. The ring-mod on oscillator two is quite good and, so far in every application I've used, ring-mod-sync seems to be more pleasing than sync on its own. The effects give a nice stereo dimension to the sounds and, on a synth of this stature, four mod-matrix slots seems to be just enough. I can't recommend key-tracking LFO 2 enough for really cool analog-FM style tones. Getting a tracked LFO speed for each note does so much for creative sound design. The microKORG has definitely remained in production for as long as it has for a reason.

The vocoder is extremely easy to use, but, the coolest thing about the microKORG is just how versatile it is. The sounds that come out of it range from Church Organs to Daft Punk. It's also got MIDI capabilities as well. I use this for live shows and it brings the house down.

I can't believe how much power and potential is packed into this machine. Knowing that you can tweak and edit 128 individual sounds infinite ways (seriously, the combinations are only limited by what you stop at) was the biggest draw to this. I've heard of many professional acts who swear by the Microkorg, and it's obvious why: you simply can't beat what it offers in size, power, and price. Needless to say, I love mine!

This is great synth for beginners to advanced musicians. The sound editing although it seems confusing is really easy once you understand what the abbreviations on the screen are referring to. The booklet that comes with it is very helpful and will have you creating your own patches in no time. I enjoy this so much I'm already looking at adding another Synth to my lineup.

The microKORG is so very versatile, integration into any set up is simple and full of satisfaction. I use the microKorg as an integral piece in my Recording Studio, MPC/APC Production Station and my DJ System as well. So, I have two of these and a third available for my use any time. If you Create Music the microKorg is an Invaluable tool. Dub Step, Techno, Hip Hop and Electronica producers Get one. Great for movie sound producers. The QUALITY is top of the line every time. Awesome is as awesome does. Dno Bravo
