The black Shure R183BB is an omnidirectional mic cartridge compatible with all Microflex and WL series microphones. The modular design of the MX and WL series allows you to swap cartridges and use a different electret condenser microphone capsule without having to purchase an entire mic. The R183 features a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound from 360° around the capsule, helping to provide consistent levels even when the talent turns away from the microphone.

A: Condenser mics such as the MX391/O require voltage in order to function. Phantom Power is the voltage required and is sent to the mic through the XLR cable from the whatever source you are connected to be it a mixer of preamp.

Q: 9. Any suggestions on the ideal phantom power source to use this mic with my Panasonic AG-HMC40P camera? Thank you.

A: I don't use phantom power with this mic. I plug it directly into a Zoom recorder and it picks up everything I need it to.

Q: 10. does this have a mute switch?

A: It does not. It is intended to be controlled externally.

This is a five star mic, Shure slaps their name on the mic clip because they are proud of this product - and they should be! Listening with studio quality monitors (Shure branded ironically), this tiny little mic can has the same frequency range as my Rode NTG-3. In some cases, it actually sounds better because of proximity. Absolutely pleased with the quality! I also use the Sanken Cos-11d and can testify that that mic sounds a bit thinner in my opinion. Shure knocked it out of the park with this one! 5

Good fit. Only thing though. Over the years the foam has gotten - weird. Like it is to weak to put up with daily activities. 5
