Q: 1. D500 battery drains even when not photographing. Why is this happening?

Q: 3. Is the Sony XQD card series M Is good enough for the D500 or is it worth to pay more and use the G series?

A: Jeffrey L., Sandra B. and Leonard S. D. pretty much covered it. If you are shooting landscape jpegs the M is more than sufficient. However, if you are shooting raw at 10 frames per second the G is worth the extra money.

Q: 9. Does the autofocus on older XCD lenses work with the new X1D2?

A: Yes older Hasselblad XCD lenses are able to autofocus on the new Hasselblad X1D2.

Q: 10. Is the speed of buffering with the camera limited by the slowest of the two memory cards? ie. If my SD card is a 633x card and my QXD card is a 2933x card, then will the camera limit itself to writing at 633x?

A: My understanding is this: the D500 has an internal buffer that will start to fill immediately. On its own it's good for about 40-50 shots at full speed (10 fps). To keep shooting, the buffer needs to clear by writing to the storage cards, and that's where the write-speed of the cards comes into play. If have the fastest XQD card in Slot 1 only, you can get 10 fps for 200 frames. The second slot is slower since its an SD, but you won't notice it unless you have your slots set to Backup rather than Overflow . If you are using Backup mode, you will see some slowdown after 50 shots or so as the system slows to write to that card. How much this is noticeable depends on the card. Id advise a faster SD card if you are concerned. Also, it's more meaningful to spec out MB/sec on transfer speed rather than 1000x, 633x, etc. Your 2933x XQD transfers about 440 MB/sec. The SanDisk card below has a speed of about 280 MB/sec. I've used this combo and have had no slow down in frame rate shooting birds in flight. Hope this helps.
