It is screwed onto the U bracket which has a number of screw fittings, although they vare wider than the Arca Swiss plate I have on my Nikkor 300mm af-s ED IF, a RRS LCF 10 B. I could attach it with just one screw, but I'm guessing there is a larger AS plate with the proper 3 screw spacing.I use the lens support with my Tammy 150-600 G1 lens. It's much easier to move than a Ball head and much more stable.Cheers.

A: I used it with a Pentax K3 and the 150-450mm zoom to shoot the recent eclipse. It never moved a mm after I prebalanced it and set the side tension. Check your side tension assembly against the parts diagram, maybe youre missing a washer.

A: Hi Robert. I'm not sure what you're asking but I will do my best to answer your question. If you are buying the Manfrotto 393, the mounting plate comes with head. There are not any special requirements to mount the head to your tripod. I know this because I have the same tripod. However, if you have already purchased your head and have lost or broken your mounting plate, contact Manfrotto and ask them where you can purchase another mounting plate. So, to summarize, there are no special parts needed to mount your gimbal head to your tripod. The mounting plate you speak of is for the lens, not for the tripod. Hope this helps.
