Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the auto focus work when mounted on a Sony FS700 - either with or without the MetaBones speed booster?

A: Not having used any Sony camera. I would be guessing. However, after checking the lens again It looks like it would with the appropriate adaptor.

Q: 2. Will it work on a film slr?

A: This is a Canon lens and will fit only on a Canon DSLR with the smaller AP-C sensor . . . .

Q: 3. I noticed this lens is Comparable to a 35mm Focal Length: 16 - 28.8 mm. What does this exactly mean? I already have a 17-50 tamron lens but I wanted a wider angle lens. Thanks

A: The focal length on an APS-C sized sensor is 16-28.8mm compared to if this were a 35mm or full frame sized sensor, as an APS-C sized sensor has a 1.6x crop on most Canon cameras. Check out the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6, which will give you a focal length equivalent to 12-24mm: http://bhpho.to/1rRooRz

Q: 4. Is the Canon 10-18 compatible with the Metabones Speedbooster .71 Ultra?

A: No, if you're referring to the Metabones T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x Adapter for Canon EF Lens to BMPCC 4K Camera, as EF-S lenses require modification to fit or may remain incompatible even after modification.

Q: 5. I have a rebel t1i and would like a nice wide angle lens for landscape and for a trip to Europe. I'm debating whether I should get the 10-18mm or 10-22mm with no IS. The 10-18 is significantly cheaper which is a huge plus but I'm not necessarily set on that. Any suggestions or better recommendations?

A: I don't know this lens compares to the 10-18mm, but we have really enjoyed using the 10-22. We spend a lot of time outdoors, especially in the mountains, and use this lens a lot. Makes beautiful photos of mountain views, including the waterfalls!

Q: 6. Will this fit a T3i Canon Camera?

A: Yes it is, the T3i (and all Rebel models) are APS-C type cameras and this lens is fully compatible with it.

Q: 7. How well would this lens perform for a group photo, consisting of about 50 or more people posing while standing on a church altar facing out towards the pews?

A: For a group portrait like you describe, if there is any way you could back away from the group, and use a longer focal length lens, it would result in a photograph with less distortion at the edges. The people at the edges will appear wider than they actually are! This is a characteristic of all super wide-angle lenses, which this is.

Q: 8. i would like a good hoods for this product other than the canon version, which is not released.

A: While I personally recommend the lens hood that is designed specifically for the optical formula of the lens, If you are looking for a third-party lens hood, I would either recommend the B+W 67mm Screw-In Metal Wide Angle Lens Hood #970, B&H # BWLHWAM67, or the General Brand 67mm Screw-In Rubber Wide Angle Lens Hood, B&H # GBLHWA67. Unfortunately, due to the super wide angle design of the lens, I cannot guarantee you will not experience any vignetting when using the third-party options listed above.

Q: 9. Considering a few lenses for a Canon 70D: Tokina 11-16mm DXII f/2.8, Canon 10-18mm f/4.5, and Canon 10-22mm f/3.5. I find myself shooting in low light fairly often which makes me lean toward the Tokina (which I love except it is a little soft at the edges and CA/lens flares can be annoying). If I am packing and using a tripod and often shooting big landscapes, is the f/4.5 of the 10-18 that much of a deal breaker? I hike and its light weight makes it appealing for backpacking too.

A: For me it delivers great IQ with CA no more than normal for this type of lens and if you always keep a tripod around and even you don't the f/4.5 isn't quite a problem because of the IS and light weight, I've made several night shots hand held with sharp results as slow as 1/8th. And it will save you some weight.

Q: 10. Will this lens work with a Canon t7 camera?

A: Yes, the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is compatible on the Canon t7.
