Offering extensive perspective and focus control along with the convenience of working with your digital camera, the black ACTUS-B4 View Camera Body with Nikon F Bayonet Mount Kit from Cambo effectively transforms your DSLR into a digital view camera. As the core component within a modular system, this view camera body serves as the primary piece from which you can pair Nikon F mount DSLRs with a variety of lenses to reap the benefits of geared camera movements for correcting perspective distortions, achieving an extended depth of field, or producing creative selective focus effects. While resembling traditional large format view cameras in function, the ACTUS system also echoes the compact form factor of the digital cameras it is designed to be paired with and is optimized for use in both the studio as well as on location.

This view camera body is delivered with a 6.1" monorail as well as a 4.9" bellows to permit working with a variety of lens and camera types. The monorail is designed to fit within the Arca-Swiss style quick release system for easy mounting to a tripod, and is also fitted with both 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 mounts for attaching quick release plates. Optional lensplates can be added depending on your desired lens type, and the monorail and bellows is also interchangeable with optional wide-angle and longer versions of each. Additionally, other optional camera bayonet mounts can also be used besides the included Nikon F bayonet mount.

A full system of movements offers extensive control over perspective and focusing settings. Geared on-axis tilt and swing movements are performed on the front standard and the rear standard permits geared rise/fall movements and quick slide shift movements:

  • Rear Rise/Fall: +0.5", -0.6" / +12mm, -15mm
  • Rear Shift: +/- 0.8" / 20mm
  • Front Swing: 360°
  • Front Tilt: +10°, -9°

The swing and tilt movements of the front standard rotate about the optical axis in order to avoid having to re-compose or re-focus after each movement is applied.

  • Both fine geared and quick-slide focusing adjustment types are available.
  • Bellows and monorail focusing allows you to achieve closer focusing distances without the use of extension tubes or other macro attachments.
  • Zero-position clicks are incorporated into each movement type for more intuitive handling.
  • Monorail is compatible with the Arca-Swiss-style quick release system and also features both 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 mounts.
  • Front tilts and swings allow you to alter the plane of focus for employing selective focus techniques or Scheimpflug settings for extensive depth of field. Additionally, these tilt and swing movements are used to correct for convergence and other perspective distortions.
  • Rear horizontal and vertical shifts allow you to move the camera position while retaining the same lens position, making this configuration especially ideal for stitching multiple exposures without having to adjust the lens.
  • The included Nikon F camera bayonet mount allows you to rotate between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations without having to adjust the actual orientation of the view camera body. This mount is not designed for use with Nikon D3/D4-series DSLRs.
  • This black finish body is anodized for greater durability and scratch resistance.
  • Compact overall form factor is relative to the size of DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

As the central component within the modular ACTUS system, this view camera body serves as the means to which you can attach a variety of optional lensplates as well as other camera bayonet mounts:

Lensplates:

  • Copal #0
  • Copal #1
  • M39 threading
  • Leica R bayonet
  • Hasselblad C bayonet
  • Mamiya RZ/RB bayonet
  • Mamiya 645 Pro TL bayonet
  • Pentax 645 bayonet
  • Nikon F bayonet
  • Canon EF bayonet

  • Canon EOS camera body (except 1D-series)
  • Leica M camera body
  • Sony E camera body
  • Fujifilm X camera body

Additionally, besides the standard included bellows and monorail, a variety of optional bellows and monorails are available for wide-angle and close-focusing/macro shooting applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does product compare to using a Nikon 85mm Tilt/shift pce lens on a Nikon D810?

A: Using the Actus system allows you to do several movements with the front and rear standard simultaneously. With the 85mm Tilt/Shift you are limited to Tilt or Shift.

Q: 2. Along with a Nikon D810 I also have a Pentax 645Z system with a 120mm f4 medium format lens. Will this combination work together?

A: You can use your Nikon D810 with the 120mm lens if you use Cambo ACB-P645. There isn't a bayonet available to mount the Pentax 645Z body to the Actus. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1131846-REG/cambo_99070719_lensplate_with_pentax_645_lens.html

Q: 3. How much shift can I expect using a Sony A7R II with an E-mount Otus 55mm?

A: You cannot use a Sony on this product. There is no bayonet mount available for it.

Q: 4. All of this work with xcd lenses?

A: Actus-XCD cannot work with the Hasselblad XCD lenses at this time. The lenses themselves are unable to be controlled when not connected to the camera body, and if used with a Hasselblad X1D body would result in the bellows acting as a series of extension tubes and not the intended perspective control method.

Q: 5. Can I rotate the X1D body from horizontal to vertical without separating it from the system?

A: Yes. The Cambo Actus-XCD has a rotating Bayonet system. When mounted it is possible to change the orientation of the camera without removing it.

Q: 6. I want to upgrade my d800 for architechture and macro photography, I own a nikkor 14mm 2.8, 20mm 2.8, 24mm 2.0, 28mm 2.8 and a 35mm 1.4 for architechture and a macro 60mm 2.8 and the 105mm micro for macro photography. Will theese lenses cover the whole sensor in the d800 for both cases?

A: None of those lenses will focus properly when using a Nikon body. Because this system introduces a bellows in between the lens and the camera body those lenses will not sit at the correct point for infinity focus.Instead I can recommend (with the appropriate lens board):Hassleblad V lenses Legacy Mamiya RZ/RB LensesLarge Format lenses 90mm and longer.

Q: 7. What's the minimum distance between the front and rear standard? Thanks.

A: The manufacture does not list the minimum distance the standards can be from each other. Technically it is very close but with depending on the lens you use you will never go to the minimum distance.

Q: 8. Which of the following lenses would work with this body. I would use a Nikon D800 camera with it.Rodenstock Grandagon-N 75 mm f/4.5 .Rodenstock Grandagon-N 90 mm f/6.8 Rodenstock Apo-Sironar-S 150 mm f/5.6 Nikon Nikkor-w 210 mm f/5.6Fujinon Compact 300 mm f/8.5??

A: This camera is compatible with a variety of ACTUS-B lensplates.

Q: 9. When working with Nikon d810, using AF lenses is not possible, I understand correctly?

A: Unfortunately, Nikon F mount autofocus lenses cannot work with this product.

Q: 10. Does the E-mount ACTUS work with Sony A7RII due to its handle protruded out more compare to A7/A7R or other Sony nex camera?

A: Yes, I use my ACTUS with the A7RII and there are no issues.

This is an excellent adapter. Very solid and well built and fits tightly... no wobbles of any sort.

2 errors from Urth on this adapter though: I have added photos highlighting this

1. On the Nikon Z teleconverter mount, there is a small notch in the adapter ring which is absent on the back side of the Urth adapter.

Therefore if you intend to use this adapter with Nikon Z teleconverter and Nikon F lens (Nikon's FTZ adapter cannot be used because the adapter hole does not allow the Z teleconverter protruding element to pass through); so if you intend to use this adapter with Z teleconverter, you will have to grind out the notch either in the teleconverter mount ring (not recommended) or grind a notch into the back side of the Urth adapter... recommended as it costs only 39$.

2. Additionally, Urth has unnecessarily put a very small screw on the back side of the adapter which also prevents it from screwing into the Nikon Z mount. We need to remove this screw as well.

Urth needs to made these 2 updates to their future adapter manufacturing runs.

I am now able to successfully use a Nikon Z camera plus Nikon Z teleconverter + Urth adapter and Nikon F lens in manual focus mode.

I read a lot of reviews about this item before I ordered one. Some love it, some are not so enamored.  Personally I like it but I need to explain its because of my expectations and use.

I had my first such device like this many years ago for my Canon. Some camera makers (like Nikon and others) use to produce these for their own lenses.  I missed buying the Nikon unit like this back years ago as they are no longer produced. If you do want a Nikon one you search the used market and will usually have to pay a big price for one that is likely deteriorated with fungus or dirt. I chose to go with this one. I know what these will, and will not do. They are not magic and cant make a bad lens into a good scope. However, they can make a usable scope from a decent lens.

Years ago I got Sigma 600mm  mirror lens for a Nikon. They were the fad for a time but never lived up to what a good quality modern lens can do. I put this Lens2scope on it and made it into a fun little telescope. Its not great but it is good. The lens is an f8 so its not super bright. It works good on a sunny day and it works great for looking at the moon and stars.
I have also tried it on some other good lenses and it makes a fair scope.  It works great on my Nikon 200-500 as well as my Tamron 150-600 as well as other lenses I have. Its not for everyone but if you understand its limitations it can be fun with the right lenses. It turned my nearly useless 600mm Sigma mirror lens into a very workable scope that I can use and enjoy. I have read of people picking up older 200mm or larger manual focus lenses cheap on ebay and making them into very serviceable spotting scopes.

I am enjoying mine but again, I have used these before and know their limitations. But they can work OK if you understand what they are and how they work best.

Yes, I would buy one again!

I haven't had the opportunity to put a real test this product yet but in trying it out on several of my lenses, this unit will fill the bill as far as my needs are concerned. For me, having this unit in my camera bag will eliminate the need to purchase a spotting scope. It works great! The images that were visible through this unit were clear and crisp as they should be as much of the quality of the images is largely determined by the quality of the lens used. I don't regret buying this product. Now I need to really start using it.

Took a while to arrive, but fit my Jupiter-11 f4/135mm USSR Soviet Copy Sonnar Lens to 135mm Camera Kiev Contax perfectly.

I bought this because I want to use a 200-500mm Nikkor lens as an astronomical telescope.
There is a Japanese company Kenko's name, but Lens2scope is not sold in Japan. I do not know why.
It can be bought from importers, but it is more than double the price than B&H.
I am happy that B&H sent me to Japan safely and cheaply.
I saw Jupiter, Saturn. Lens2scope is bright and satisfied with resolution well.

This crazy accessory works surprisingly well. Attach a 200mm, 300mm or 500mm lens to this thing, and you wind up with a very powerful telescope. This device is for viewing only. Sure, a dedicated quality telescope would offer a brighter, wider field viewing experience, but for the price, this Lens2Scope adapter does an amazingly good job.

I got this to use my 200-500mm f/5.6 lens as a small telescope. It works as a 10mm objective, so I get a 50x magnification (500mm/10mm) with the lens set to 500mm, which is not a lot of magnification for a telescope, but enough to see Jupiter's moons as well as Saturn's rings. The result image is very clear and bright (at least with my f/5.6 lens).
I only wish this setup allowed me to swap objectives in order to get even higher magnification.
