Utilizing a "normal" field of view and a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, the 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F from Samyang is optimized for effective low light shooting, fast shutter speed capture and shallow depth of field control. When used on cameras with a DX format sensor its 35mm focal length equivalence is 75mm.

The optical design of the lens consists of 9 elements in 6 groups including one hybrid aspherical element and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberrations. Also, lens elements are coated with an Ultra Multi-Coating to improve light transmission and minimize flare and ghosting. Eight diaphragm blades create a circular aperture for more attractive out-of-focus highlights.

As a manual focus and manual aperture lens, it provides a rubberized focus ring and clear aperture, distance and depth of field markings. Additionally, an included petal-shaped lens hood blocks unwanted light and protects the lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why does the black one cost more than the grey one?

A: That is currently the best price offered on this particular color version.

Q: 2. Is it compatible with T3i?

A: This Version of the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 is designed for Nikon cameras; it would not be compatible with the T3i. For Canon cameras, you would need the version of this lens with the Canon mount.http://bhpho.to/UhdqJE

Q: 3. I have an 8X10 wooden pinhole box camera, dimensions are 12X10X7. Is there any chance it could sqeeze into the bottom compartment?

A: On compartment is 13.0 x 13.0 x 6.0" / 33.0 x 33.0 x 15.2 cm. so close once inch short on the short dimension. It might work but that can only be determined by testing.

Q: 4. Does this work with the Metabones Speedbooster XL 0.64x to M4/3 (i.e. any issues with focusing to infinite)?

A: When using the Metabones Speedbooster XL with the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Canon EF, it depends on the camera body being used to know for sure.

Q: 5. is it compatible with canon eos500N ( film camera / not digital ) ?

A: Yes, the Samyang 50mm is fully compatible.

Q: 6. How would focusing work with a D3300, would a light come on when it was in focus, or something? Thanks

A: As the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F (AE Chip) has an AE microprocessor that enables the camera to electronically confirm focus as well as permit camera-based control over exposure settings, when focusing the lens manually and looking through the viewfinder, the green focus confirmation LED in the viewfinder will illuminate when the subject on your selected focus point is in focus.

Q: 7. Does this lens have a focus confirmation chip, similar to the Samyang 14mm?So the green light in the viewfinder lights up when focus is achieved?

A: This one does not have focus confirmation.

Q: 8. Is the waist belt on this bag (the f.64 BPX Extra Large Backpack) removable or is it permanently attached?

i used this lens for video with my canon 7d the image looks sharp at f1.4 small dof very smooth manual focus ring for video its awesome... this lens is all manual so not for fast action photography but great for other projects its going to be on my camera all the time instead of my canon lenses because of the unique look of the f1.4 for a 35mm lens!!!

This lens is all around extremely good for the price. The build quality is quite good and the build feels very nice, not cheap like some of the lower end Sony lenses. Even though the lens is manual focus, it is extremely easy to use on the a7. An AF version is also available, but I stuck with the MF because it was cheaper. The image quality is really great and very sharp. There was very little vignetting and rarely any chromatic aberration, which I only saw a few times while shooting at F1.4. The low aperture allows for really great photos and truly makes this lens a perfect multipurpose lens to bring on vacations and photography adventures. Ultimately, I would definitely recommend this lens and for the super cheap price at B&H, it can't be beat by any overpriced Zeiss lens.

I use this on a crop sensor Canon 50D as it gives me a 56mm equivalent on a film or full sensor camera. I have an 18-200 lens but it only goes down to f/3.5 of 4 at 50mm so I need this for the depth of field it can give with the f/1.4 aperture. There are several versions of this lens out there, this one does not have an aperture ring, all f stops are adjusted with the camera and not on the lens. As the reviews on the other versions of this lens it is manual focus but it is very clear and easy to focus and the photos are very sharp. I can compare it to a Canon 50mm f/1/4 USM and a Canon 60mm f/2.8 macro and it is as sharp as either of those as well as my Canon 18-200. I am not a professional but as a serious hobbyist I am very satisfied with this lens. This is a solid heavy lens. It is twice the size of my Canon 50mm USM and it is almost the same size as my Canon 18-200 which I keep on my camera most of the time so when I switch to this lens may camera maintains the same feel and balance.
