Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. It's possible to connect the recorder with the Original Blackmagic Pocket?
A: Yes, the line output from the Zoom H1n Portable Handy Recorder to the mic input on the original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera when using a level matching cable like the Sescom LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N - Line to Microphone Attenuation Cable for HDSLR Cameras (B&H # SEL2MZH4N) and the Sescom LN2MIC-ZMH4-MON Line Out to Camera Mic In Headphone Tap Cable (B&H # SEL2MZH4N25D) to convert line.
Q: 2. Does this recorder have live listening? Can you listen to what you are recording, through this recorder with headphones while recording?
A: Yes, when headphones are plugged in to the headphone/line output the live recording feed can be monitored.
Q: 3. Will the H1n record phone calls on the iPhone 11?
A: Yes, you can record phone calls from your iPhone onto the Zoom H1n recorder, but you will need to use an interface to connect the output from the iPhone to the input on the H1n. As a simple solution, you could use an external mic with a headphone output such as the Polsen MO-IPL2 Lavalier Microphone with Lightning Connector and Headphone Jack for iOS Devices (B&H # POMOIPL2). The mic will connect directly to your iPhone's Lightning port. Then use a stereo aux cable such as the Pearstone Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Male Cable - Black, 3' (B&H # PEMMSA103B) to connect the headphone output from the mic to the input on the H1n. Connect standard headphones to the headphone jack on the H1n to monitor the audio as it's being recorded on the H1n. There are many other options that can be configured with adapter cables such as the JK Audio CellTap 4C Wireless Phone Audio Tap Adapter (B&H # JKCELLTAP4C) or an IK Multimedia iRig Pre Microphone Interface (B&H # IKIRIGPRE) or StarTech Headset Output Splitter for Dedicated Mic & Headphones Plugs (B&H # STMUYHSMFFAW). Please feel free to contact us by phone or through live chat to put together the best options for your application.
Q: 4. What do I order to have an ac wall cord/plug in for this? It doesn't come with one? Also, It needs to plug into a stereo (2- 1/4" jacks... into the zoom) to record the reels. What is the best option (Thanks guys for the previous answer with 1/8"... do I use simple adapter or is there a different cord entirely?) And the single side goes into the zoom, correct? I'm not tech savvy, obviously. Thank you!
A: An AC adapter is not included with this Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone (Gray). This would be the recommended AC Adapter: Zoom AD-17 AC Adapter for Select Zoom Devices B&H # ZOAD17: https://bhpho.to/2WQmLxi Use this simple Y adapter to connect to the analog inputs on an AV receiver: Pearstone 1/8" Stereo Mini to Dual RCA Y-Cable (6') B&H # PESMYC2RM6: https://bhpho.to/3yDpW8P
Q: 5. I want to use it to record a human voice. What are the best settings for the best sound results? I don't care how efficient the recording is.
A: Using WAV format at 96 kHz/24-bit will give you the best audio quality for recording. WAV format is going to provide much better audio quality than MP3. You can either set the input level manually or use the automatic level adjustment to allow the recorder to automatically adjust the input level. You can also choose to use the built-in mic or use an external microphone with the Zoom H1n.
Q: 6. Would not the output of the recorder (line signal) be too strong for a dslr mic input level through a normal trs cable without attenuation ??
A: That is correct, a line level signal is too hot for a mic level input, which is why you would use an attenuation cable. Some DSLR cameras and most professional cameras have a mic/line level selector.
Q: 7. What is the Quickest time / Shortest time from the recorder being Off to recording?
A: Regarding the Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone (Black), the time it takes from being off to recording would depend on the capacity of the microSD card you are using. The more memory your card has, the longer the H1n will take to index the stored files before the device is ready to use.
Q: 8. What is the difference between grey and black? Unusual 40 dollar disparity
A: It is a cosmetic difference.
Q: 9. This has 2.5 Volt plug-in power for mic. Does this use TRRS connector or is the DC voltage carried on the audio channels?
A: This uses a standard TRS connection for the mic/line input. Voltage would be carried on the tip of the connection.
Q: 10. Can you feed the output signal to the camera audio inputs safely? Or e.g. at lower output volume?
A: This can be done by running a standard aux cable from the headphone/line output of your H1n to the mic/line in of your camera. You can then use the volume +/- buttons to set the levels appropriately.
