Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there anyway to adapt this system for Profoto OCF?

A: The following item will mount to Profoto system.

Q: 2. Can I use my Godox DP1000III Professional Studio Flash with this accessory?

A: Officially, the Westcott Optical Spot by Lindsay Adler for Bowens (B&H# WEOSLABWNS) says it's for studio strobes up to 600W/s and LED lights up to 100W. The major concern is the amount of heat that is generated inside of this tight-fitting modifier. Having said that, as long as you are not using the incandescent bulb of the Godox DP1000III Professional Studio Flash (B&H# GODP1000III) and you don't use the strobe in a way that results in a buildup of heat then the heat won't be a concern. Please keep in mind that using this in a way that's not consistent with the manufacturer's specifications might void the warranty.

Q: 3. What would be the best source for additional Canon EF lens to use with the Optical Spot?

A: If you own Canon EF mount lenses, 50, 40 or 35mm prime lenses will create a wider spread than the 150mm lens provided with the Westcott Optical Spot by Lindsay Adler for Bowens.

Q: 4. 1) Looking at the specs, can this be used with a Profoto D2 1000 Ws at up to power 9.2 with proportional modeling light? 2) Best used with flat glass or dome?

A: Unfortunately, this Optical Spot is not recommended for use with a Profoto D2 1000 monolight. Otherwise, it can be used with a D2 500 watt/sec monolight with the flat glass installed.

Q: 5. How does it focus?

A: The 150mm f/3.5 lens included with this kit would have a manual focus ring in front.

Q: 6. What are the gobo sizes on the Optical spot?if i need to buy 3rd party i need to check the fitment but no where does it mention the size (86mm, 88mm, B, M etc)

A: The following unit adapts to size Size: M (2.6" gobo units.

Q: 7. Can you use this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1713555-REG to adapt to broncolor mount if i got the bowens version?

A: Yes you can.

Q: 8. Is there anyway to purchase without the lens?

A: Westcott only sells the Westcott Optical Spot as kit with a lens.

Q: 9. Is this compatible if my Atamos NinjaV is using the small rig cage? Or does it have to be cageless to work?

A: The SmallRig 2209 Cage for Atomos Ninja V/V+ should not effect the Kinotehnik LCDVF 5.2 Optical Viewfinder's (Shinobi, Ninja V/V+, BM5, LH5H) ability to mount to the Ninja V monitor.

Q: 10. Westcott says this modifier is not to be used with a strobe's modeling light on. It is understandable that leaving a 250 watt modeling light on inside this modifier's closed structure would be dangerously hot, but would it be unwise to use a 250 watt modeling light **even briefly** for the purpose of aiming the focused spot?? It I were to buy this I would want to be able to use my modeling light at least briefly to be able to aim the small focused spot of light on the small products I shoot.

A: Following unit adapt to any Bowens mount system.

Great value for the money. I use them instead of a lens cap and replace them every couple of years before scratches become an issue.
