Q: 1. Is this a good student camera? Is it durable?

A: This is a fantastic camera for a student. It will offer great video with the highest resolution available alongside a really nice experience with photography. The camera itself is pretty durable however it is not resistant to moisture or water.

Q: 2. What particular lens hood for the DMC-G7 with 14-42mm lens?

A: It came with a lens hood, so I didn't have to make a decision on that.

Q: 3. Does the 30 minute recording limit apply to just the 4k video mode, or is 1080p also limited to 30 minute video recording?

A: There is actually a work-around for the G7 to disable the 4K time limit, so it applies to neither of them

A: Yes, it does.

A: The camera does send out a video feed of 8 bit 422. However, if you hit the record button on the camera, it will cut that HDMI output feed.

Q: 6. with the kit lens (14-42mm) at recording video,how's the battery doing?

A: The manual for the camera lists battery will last approximately 50 minutes while recording 4K video. Keep in mind that the maximum length the camera can record continuously is 30 minutes. If you need to record for longer periods of time, there are AC adapters for this camera (DMW-AC10 and DMW-DCC8).

Q: 7. Microphone

A: The G7 has a nice built in mic that is better than some of the other built in mics I've used, but if you're hoping to capture audio from a few feet away, I'd recommend any of the Rode products or if you are ok with syncing audio later, the Zoom HI is nice.

Q: 8. Does the G7 allow to set AUTO ISO when in Manual Mode?

A: Yes, the camera has an AUTO option for the ISO sensitivity in the manual mode.

A: Both body and lens are made in China.

Q: 10. Phantom power?

A: The Panasonic Lumix G7 Mirrorless Camera does have a 3.5mm microphone input, which does provide low voltage plug-in power (1-5 volts) for microphones that require it. The camera does not have any XLR mic inputs that would supply phantom power (11-52 volts, but most commonly 48 volts), for microphones that need that standard. Please contact us for help choosing a microphone that will work with this camera, or a separate preamp, mixer, or audio recorder that can complete your setup.
