Q: 1. I'm youtuber I make Videos at home studio. I use rode ntg-3 with zoom h6 is it worth to upgrade from zoom h6 will it be Noticeable change in quality? I work on 23bit 48khz WAVE files in control ed enviroment so I think there want be diffrence in 24 or 32bits, but are the preamps worth to upgrade or something else?

A: The 32-bit recording does make a noticeable difference in the audio quality and as others have already mentioned, it is near impossible to have any problems with clipping on the tracks. The Sound Devices preamps are excellent and many customers do consider the MixPre series recorders to be a worthy upgrade from the Zoom H6.

Q: 2. If Recording directly from the mixpre to my camera (a7iii), will the 32bit sound be baked into the SD card of the camera along with the footage, or will the 16bit rate of the internal preamps of my camera take over? Assuming my volume level on the camera is turned down to 1 (minimal)

A: Your better quality 32 bit audio would be on the recorder only. Going into the mic input on your camera from the recorder would not give you the same audio quality as what you get from the recorder.

Q: 3. Can the MixPre-3 send or receive TC from with the Atomos Ultrasynch Blue?

A: The Sound Devices MixPre-3 II 3-Channel / 5-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder is not compatible with the Atomos UltraSync BLUE.

Q: 4. Does this unit respond to HDMI record triggers and HDMI timecode from Sony Z90 and NX80?

A: Yes, the recorder features a 1 x HDMI Type-D SMPTE Timecode Input.

Q: 5. What's the minimum MB/s on the SD card specs to record 32 bit float sound? I have several Sandisk SDXC1 45MB/s cards and wondering if I'll have to upgrade?

A: Hi Richard. The read/write speed is less critical than the class of card. As long as you are using a class 10 SD card, you should be good to go!

Q: 6. Can you use it as a USB interface and record simultaneously like the previous version?

A: Hello John! Yes, you can use the MixPre-3 II as an interface at the same time that you are recording locally to SD card and/or approved thumb drive!

Q: 7. I know the unit requires 7.5 watts and 1.5 amps to power it, but what is the max voltage that the USB-C can handle? I would like to connect a LPN battery directly to the USB without having to buy the $60 battery sled.

A: Hello Michael. Generally, if you connect a battery to a device via USB-C, the battery and the device to which it is connected will negotiate the maximum voltage. The MixPre-3 II only uses 5-volts via USB-C. It will not negotiate to the higher available voltages.

Q: 8. what external battery can I use?

A: You can use the Sound Devices MX-L Mount sled with several different batteries, including the Watson NP-F770: https://bhpho.to/37r9oUC https://bhpho.to/2MGUYHS l

Q: 9. Can this be used as an iOS audio interface?

A: While they may be in the future, they are not yet iOS certified.

Q: 10. How can I sync timecode from tentacle sync into mix pre ii ?

A: The MixPre II can either be a "master" and send/jam timecode to the Tentacle Sync ("slave"), or the Tentacle Sync can act as "master" and jam the MixPre II ("slave"). If you are using the MixPre II as a master, simply set the MixPre II TC Mode to Free Run. If you are using the Tentacle Sync as the master, please set the MixPre II TC Mode to AUX IN 1 or AUX IN 2. Please refer to the Tentacle Sync manual to determine how to set this device to send and/or receive timecode, depending on your preference of using it as a "master" or "slave."
