The 72mm Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 13-stop reduction in exposure. This 3.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

ND 3.9 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 13-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Q: 1. What is outside diamater? I want to attach a screw in hood.

A: The outside diameter is 62mm.

Q: 2. Is this filter compatible with a Canon 50mm 1.4?

A: Yes, the Bower 58mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is compatible with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF USM lens.

Q: 3. Can you layer this filter with other filters?

A: Yes, but note that this filter has 52mm threads in the rear where it attaches to the lens and 55mm on the front to accept additional filters or a lens cap.

Q: 4. is this compatible with hasselblad hcd f4 28mm which does have a diameter of 95mm?

A: If the lens has threads on the front then it should fit.I use it on a Sigma 150-600

Q: 5. What size and type of lens cap works with this filter?

A: This filter will have a 67mm front thread that will work with most 67mm sized lens caps.

Q: 6. Am I right to assume that a 58mm lens cap would fit over this filter?

A: Yes, technically a 58mm lens cap should fit. But filters like these can be wider. They essentially are made up of two polarizing filters sandwiched together. So they can be a bit wider because of that.

Q: 7. Hi, I would like to know about the quality of this filter. Is it pro level?

A: Yes it is. Goid success

Q: 8. Will this fit a 18-55mm nikon lens?

A: No, the Nikon 18-55mm is a 55mm lens filter.

Q: 9. is there a filter that cuts reflection of car interior, w camera mounted to window on the inside, shooting out the car window?

A: Best for reflections is using a polarizing filter not an ND. This is some options, https://bhpho.to/46vbdOC.

Q: 10. Hi i have a nikon 50mm 1.8 lens will this fit, cause on the box of the lens it said filter size 52mm ?

A: Yes. It will fit. The 52mm is referring to the diameter of the lens where the filter threads fit

Honestly, I didn't think it was going to be any good but I needed something cheap, but once I attached it to my lens I was proven wrong. The price point is great and the quality is just as good as a more expensive brand.

For a relatively cheap variable natural density filter it is great for its value. It doesn't quite have enough f-stop to get a full sunrise but other than that it is amazing.

Great for mid day shooting when the sun is bright. For the landscape type shots I have been taking lately, I couldn't be happier. This gives me precise control in capturing motion in the waterfalls and other moving water scenes I have been shooting. The variable filter operates smoothly and stays in place and does not change on its own. The case it comes in is excellent as well, much nicer and more convenient than those I have purchased from more expensive brands. Keeps the filter protected, but quick and easy to open and close when time is an issue.
