Photographer's Formulary Prescysol EF is a specially formulated developer unsurpassed in its ability to provide superb negatives with extremely fine grain, the highest available sharpness, smoothly gradated tones and delicate and translucent highlights.

Chemistry TypeFilm Developer
Powder/LiquidLiquid

A tanning and staining developer; As the developer is absorbed, the emulsion is tanned, or hardened, and this hardening is variable, being greater in areas of greater exposure

As the emulsion tans, it inhibits the absorption of further amounts of the developing agent, and so development in these highlights areas is restrained; The lower tanning action in the shadow areas allows development to continue and these areas continue to build, producing negatives with rich, deep shadows, beautifully gradated mid-tones, and delicate highlights

Negatives developed in Prescysol EF, particularly using the partial stand method, will yield full speed, exhibit high acutance, and will need considerably less burning-in to areas such as skies

As development proceeds, oxidation and natural by-products of the process stain the emulsion brown, the staining being proportional to the exposure level of the various parts of the negative; The result is a continuously variable mask of printing density across the tonal range of the negative

As the emulsion is stained mostly between the silver grains the effect is to soften the grain and so produce a smoother tonality in large areas such as sky and mist, where grain can normally be such a problem

Prescysol EF is an extremely tolerant developer; films of different make and speed can be developed together at the same time. For example, HP5 400 (120 roll film) and Delta 100 (35mm) despite being of totally different grain structure can be developed together in the same tank for the same time

In fact, the modern tabular grain films (which require closer control of times and temperatures in normal developers and are more susceptible to burned highlights and blocked shadows) will benefit enormously from being developed in Prescysol EF, yielding the fine grain, tone and acutance of which these films are capable

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. hellocan i use this film for outside filming ...do i have to screw any filter in front of the camera lens?

A: all film is tungsten balanced, meaning you need an 85B filter if shooting outdoors. however almost every super-8 camera has this built in. you should see a switch on the camera with a lightbulb/sun.

Q: 2. Where do you get the Super 8 film processed to be viewable via dvd?

A: Unfortunately, B&H does not process Super 8 Film. As such, I would recommend searching on Google or your preferred internet search engine and search for "Super 8mm film processing" to find processing labs that develop Super 8mm film, and inquire if they also have scanning services to scan the film to DVD.

Q: 3. Will these lenses work with an ARRI Alexa Mini LF with a PL/LPL adapter?

A: Yes, one can use these lenses with a PL to LPL lens adapter such as ARRI PL-to-LPL Lens Adapter BH #ARK20016936 • MFR #K2.0016936. https://bhpho.to/3wpfFOk

Q: 4. Is the developing/ scanning free

A: No it is not. You have to send your exposed film off to a lab to be developed and scanned. (Or develop yourself)

Q: 5. Can i use it with Nikon z fc ?

A: To use the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Nikon F with the Nikon Zfc Mirrorless Camera, you need the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter, BH #NIFTZ2.

Q: 6. can i adapt this lens to work w the ef-rf adaptor for the canon r7 and r6? Also does it mantain the frame rates?

A: Yes, the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF can be adapted to a Canon RF body using the Canon EF-R lens adapters. While this lens is optimized for an APS-C format as found on the EOS R7, using it on the EOS R6 will result in vignetting and a loss of resolution.

Q: 7. Hi! I have a Kodak brownie 8mm will this work?

A: No, this is super 8 film. The only film we have that will work is Fomapan b&w film, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/927375-REG/foma_411801_fomapan_r100_2x_standard.html

Q: 8. Will this film work with a Universa SLE 6000 camera?

A: Super 8 camera. Id tell you what model I used but TSA broke it :(

Q: 9. Will this work with a Cine Kodak 8 Model 20?

A: The Kodak VISION3 50D Color Negative Film #7203 (Super 8, 50' Roll) is not suitable for the Kodak 8 Model 20.

Q: 10. I have a Canon Autozoom 814. If I get the daylight film, do I leave the camera setting to tungsten or switch on the daylight filter?

A: You need to change the camera settings to daylight, not tungsten.
