Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the Revelator be mounted on a mic stand?

A: Yes, that is possible; the microphone can be removed from the base, for mounting on a stand or boom arm.

Q: 2. Need a recommendation for a voice mic to use with an M BOX Mini currently using a SHURE PE 515, I also have a SHURE 545L which I have not tried. Or, if I get a Shure SM7B will I be able to use my Passport 150 Pro as a pre-amp for the M BOX Mini?

A: The Shure SM7B is very low in natural since its a dynamic mic it needs alot of gain from your M BOX asnd doing so will introduce hiss from the M BOX bringing noise level up. The best we can advice is to get a cloud lifter and this will eliminate and hiss giving you a 25db of a boost.

Q: 3. Will this plugin work in Windows 10?

A: Yes, this plug-in is compatible with Windows 10 64-bit.

Q: 4. if I buy this what equipment do I need to operate the software and give a tactile feeling of living in tube life?

A: This product is software based, so is controlled on computer screen, with a mouse. There is not tactile feeling.

Q: 5. If I use this mic with Rodecaster Pro do I need a preamp?

A: You will not need to use a separate pre-amp, however, because the SM7B is a very low gain microphone it is recommended to use a Cloud Lifter, which will increase gain by 25 dB so that you do not have to turn the gain on the Rodecaster all the way up, which will introduce noise. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1177578-REG/cloud_microphones_cl_1_cloudlifter_mic_activator.html

Q: 6. Can this be used for live stream voice changer?

A: The Overloud Gem VOICE Vocal Production Software is a plugin suite meant for use with digital audio workstation (DAW) programs such as Logic, Pro-Tools, etc. It can be run in AU, VST, and AAX formats, which are typical for such software. It will not run in standalone mode, so you must have a DAW to use this software. It features typical vocal mixing effects, such as compression, EQ, Delay, &c. but it does not feature pitch shifting or other effects which could be considered for use as a "voice changer."

Q: 7. Shure SM7B will work with the Roland R-26 recorder? Shure reports that SM7B requires a minimum of 59 dB gain. Rolnad R-26 in the specification has a -62dBu output level.

A: The DB range looks good on paper but you're going to be maxed out and get a quiet level that will make buying such a nice mic pointless. You'll need a pre-amp like a Cloudlifter or a Triton Audio Fethead in-line preamp (the cheaper option). Do NOT use phantom power on the Shure SM7B unless you want to ruin it. I use my Shure SM7B in my home studio with a DBX 286s preamp/processor. It's about $200 but it makes my audio national broadcast quality.

Q: 8. Would you be able to recommend how to set up the Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 2-Channel Tube Microphone Preamplifier/Line Driver/DI Box with a Shure SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Broadcast Microphone to a computer? I have the mic and preamp but need a new computer to interface with. Any suggestions for this combo? Thanks!!!

A: For best results, this preamp should be connected to a computer using a USB audio interface. The Focusrite 2i2 is a solid choice that is compatible with both Mac and PC. The unit features front panel line inputs that can accept the outputs of both of the Behringer preamp outputs and will be compatible with virtually any recording software.

Q: 9. does it requires software drivers or will it work with windows out of the box?

A: The PreSonus Revelator USB microphone does require installing software drivers which can be downloaded after you have registered the Revelator online at presonus.com. PreSonus Studio One Artist software is also included which can be used as your DAW (digital audio workstation) if desired, and additional software plug-ins are provided as well.

Q: 10. Can you use this with the Blue Yeti boom arm?

A: Yes, the Shure SM7B microphone can be mounted on a Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Broadcast Boom Arm (B&H # BLCOMPASS).

I recieved this just a week or two ago, and to be honest with ya, there is not to many reviews out there. I have been doing live sound for 4 years. I am very impressed with the functionality and features that this unit offers. Even without the autotune, it has the meat and potatoes inside to make your audio shine, if it be a drum or a Lead singer....this baby delivers! I am so impressed with the clarity and pressence that this one unit gives you. The foot pedal input is awesome for onstage performances. Like I said......WELL WORTH MORE THAN WHAT YOU PAY! Its like one of those things that you spend months discovering the little ways to tweak things, that just keep providing awesome audio! If you are on the fence, there is no reason to hold yourself back! Just get it and pat yourself on the back. Everyone else will!

When the pandemic hit I had to use Zoom to talk to clients while I worked from home. I struggled for months with my PC's built-in low quality microphone. Keystrokes and washer/dryer noises were super loud in my audio. I finally decided to spend $$$ on a setup that better represents me professionally.

Since this mic is popular with podcasters I knew it would meet my needs.

The first benefit is the look. This mic is handsome and communicates that I was willing to spend some money on my setup.

Second, it's spectrally complete; whether you need more lows or more highs, this mic gives your signal chain something to work with.

One quirk of the SM7B is that it performs best with an ultra low noise preamp with 30 dB or more of clean gain. While there are cleaner, pricier options, the DBX286 has ample preamp gain and is more than clean enough for zoom meetings.

The SM7B has a cardioid pattern, so sounds from behind the mic aren't picked up. By keeping my keyboard in this area (and using the noise gate on the DBX286) I was able to completely eliminate keystroke chatter from my audio feed.

Finally, the output level of the DBX286 was a little hot for my sound card and caused clipping, so I switched to a Scarlet 2i2.

While there may be more budget options available, I'm thrilled with how this setup looks and sounds. I get compliments on my audio quality.

The Tascam TA-1VP was far more than I what I expected. With a surprising number of features, it not only surpassed my expectations, but startling so! There's plenty of room to grow here - and for a very affordable price.

I own a radio station and perform my shows on location with guests. I have 3 of the Shute SM-78s and the voice quality is fantastic. With the Cloudlifter kit, live on-air, podcasts and recordings with guests sounds amazing.

I haven't found anything wrong with this processor yet. We bought it primarily for an inexpensive way to get some autotune effects, but there is much more that this unit does for us. We decided not to rack mount the unit as we use it in three venues at our church and wanted the versatility of moving it around.

Unlike other tuners, the note your sing or play shows up on the treble or bass staff. I like this much better than the standard electronic tuner that just shows the note name. For me, this works great.

Best podcasting/voice-over microphone ever! No background noise, even when people are loudly talking in the next room. The audio is so beautiful, that I hardly need to do any work retouching it. This has streamlined my workflow and saved me hours and hours of time.

It sat around a few weeks while I finished up a project, then I wired in the new Tascam Voice Processor with Antares. I had it wired so the Rosetta AD/DA analog output was returning to the board and my headphones, which meant I could hear both what I was singing through bone conduction and leakage and the subsequent pitch correction, if any. With that patching, when it corrects, your brain hears discord and wants to stop that right away. I found it hard to listen to at first then it became more like a friendly reminder I was losing energy at the end of a phrase, etc - and corrections were made less and less so it can be a teaching device if you can get used to it.Regardless of the number of corrections, the resulting takes were all on key and the sound quality good. The slight difference is the corrected vocal tracks are more 'smeared' and a bit of top end is lost and the bottom end enhanced. I think the smeared effect is a chorusing part of the correction equation, since chorusing always produced some pitch correction by nature. For demos, it's a great time saver for writers with less than perfect pitch. For live performance, a good insurance policy that'll free you up, to go for that high note and a one box, lightweight solution for gigs. Over time, it can be a good teacher. $ bucks? A good deal. Didn't care much for the other toys though - compressor leaves more artifact in the wav file recording than there would be running through a DBX 165. Two band eq is not sufficient and I never met a de-esser I liked. Didn't try mic modeling yet but note the manual says it cannot enhance your Neumann, only make your SM 58 sound more like it. We'll see, I'll post a couple of files on YouTube.
