A: From the looks of the photos, it doesn't look like you could replace the head itself. The Manfrotto MVH500AH has a 3/8 female screw hole. The Manfrotto 560B-1 has a 1/4 quick release plate. So the two would not work. It doesn't say that you can remove the head completely and if it has a 3/8 screw to mount a new head on. If you wanted you could get an adapter for the 1/4 plate to mount a 3/8 female thread.

A: I just bought the MVH500AH and mounted it on my Befree (Aluminium). It fits perfectly and I can't complain except for the fact that the Befree may be a tiny bit too light for video work in the field (but I'm really satisfied so far). As for your carbon fiber, I wouldn't know; maybe it'll be too light or maybe you'll find a way. But to answer your original question: yes it will work with the Manfrotto Befree.

A: I can get the legs out so they sit almost completely flat on the ground--perhaps 1 or 2 degrees above 90 degrees, with the center column then bringing the top of the head plate to 16.5 above the ground.
