The down-side is that paper left sitting in it may bend and warp over time; and it does leave the printer's innards open to dust and dirt.The ip8720 also has the bottom tray, a design used in most printers, dedicated, printer-only models as well as all-in-ones, from HP, Epson, etc., as well as Canon.
