I highly recommend getting a receiver for each flash you have, so you can create proper portrait lighting. As long as you have a hot shoe on the D5000 you should be fine. A: The Vello FreeWave LR Wireless Flash Trigger and Receiver Kit is compatible with most hot shoe center pin connections. It will trigger flashes but will not have TTL functionality with your camera. Flashes will only operate in manual mode.
