Safeguard your lens with the Lens Cover for Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF from LensCoat. This water-resistant neoprene cover is custom-built to fit tightly around your lens, and helps protect it against bumps and scratches that may occur while you are out shooting. The neoprene material also acts as a thermal barrier between your hands and the lens, making operation more comfortable in extreme heat or cold.

To install the cover, simply slide it onto the lens until it fits correctly. Removing it is just as easy, and allows for switching covers quickly while out in the field. An additional piece can also be installed via hook-and-loop fasteners once the lens is zoomed to 300mm, providing complete coverage even when the lens barrel is fully extended.

For simplified operation, the cover features two plastic windows that can be used for viewing the distance scale and auto-focus setting. This version comes in a solid black color. This product is made in the USA.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this lens be comfortably used hand-held?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens can comfortably be used hand held by most people. It is not extremely heavy.

Q: 2. will this lens work on d40x

A: Yes it is compatible on a D40x.

Q: 3. would this lens FOCUS better on the Nikon Z8 with the FTZII adaptor than it does on the D780 or the D850?

A: Yes, the Nikon Z8 does offer much better autofocus performance than the D780 or D850 so the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens will work better on it with the FTZ adapter.

Q: 4. Compatible with old n55?

A: I do not know. You might lose some features even if it is compatible. The lens is a great all-around travel lens for my work; sharp with great quality. Good luck on your info quest. Perhaps you might call Nikon USA tech support for compatibility issues.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible to the new Nikon Z8 with the FTZII adaptor and would it be a lens for the Nikon Z8 ?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens is a good lens compatible with the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera when using the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter.

Q: 6. Can I use this lens in my Nikon D610 with a Nikon teleconverter?

A: The Nikon 28-300mm lens is compatible with the D610. Though, Unfortunately, there isn't a teleconverter that can be used with the 28-300mm lens. Lenses that have a wide angle, have a lens construction where the rear element sticks out far more than a lens that has a 50mm or longer focal length. For this reason, lenses that have focal lengths wider than 50mm are not typically compatible with teleconverters, even if you could fit one on the back of the lens, you would again seriously risk damaging the rear element of the lens.

Q: 7. d3200will this work on Nikon d3200?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Nikon D3200.

Q: 8. Is this lens compatible with a Nikon D50?

A: The NIKKOR 28-300mm lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D850.

Q: 9. Is this lens macro capable? The equivalent Tamron lens is labeled as Macro but this one isn't. However, the close focusing distance is within 1cm of the Tamron.

A: No, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom Lens is not a macro lens. The lens has a magnification of 0.32x and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:3. A true macro lens has a 1.0x magnification and a 1:1 reproduction ratio. The lens does have a minimum focus distance of 1.64' (50 cm), but the lens' magnification and reproduction ratio is what denotes a lens as a macro lens.

Q: 10. I have a D-600 and would also like to use my Teleconverter (1.7x) with this lens and camera, will it work? I know the Tele doesn't work with the 24-70 Nikon lens, but will it work with the 28-300?

A: You wouldn't be able to use a teleconverter with the 28-300mm lens. Lenses that have a wide angle have a lens construction where the rear element sticks out far more than lenses that have a 50mm or longer focal length. For this reason, lenses that have focal lengths wider than 50mm are not typically compatible with teleconverters. Even if you could fit one on the back of the lens, you would risk seriously damaging the rear element of the lens and the teleconverter itself.

Been shooting with a Nikon D80 with an 18-200 lens for years. Decided to treat myself to a Nikon D700 when I retired and chose the AF-S Nikkor 28-300 lens as my first and only lens. Have been shooting with it for the last six months with results that are all I wanted and more. Low light is no problem with the ISO options on the D700. Pictures I've taken are all sharp. My only complaints are relatively minor - the lens hood doesn't stay put and the lens is fairly heavy. This is the perfect lens for amateurs like me who only want one lens to cover everything. I take it everywhere and love it.

I have a D3s and the 70-200 as well as the 24-70 lens and just was sick of lugging all that weight around all the time for a simple shoot. This lens is perfect for shoots that don't require super fast lenses. The huge focal range is terrific too. It might not be as razor sharp or focus as fast as my other lenses, but it's my go-to lens for regular light/slower action. The quality is very very good.

This is a great travel lens. If you are with your family and not other photographers, you probably don't want to carry a heavy load and bother with switching lenses. The 28-300 covers everything. I use it on my D700 for all travel. Others complain about the weight, but this matches the D700 body well and feels balanced. It is not a low light lens but if you have a camera body with low noise at high ISO, it is fine. This is a major improvement over my old Tamron 28-300 which I have had since 2002.

I'm a Fine Art and Portrait photographer in Los Angeles. I was looking for an all purpose lens to go with my 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 and 85mm lenses for use in the field and in my studio. I was skeptical of anything as diverse as this lens - it sounded too good to be true. I am AMAZED!!! This lens performs indoors and out - low light (just jack up the iso on my d700 to 1600 or higher and I'm good to go...) or not...as a matter of fact I find myself using it many times instead of my 24-70: the lens is that good -

An old favorite returns up to date. Combined with the D700 it is a very hand holdable setup, even for a 93 year old. Have been using it for birds and scenics.

I just spend 4 weeks in Europe and this lens was great. Its only problem is the hood, which falls off if you touch it.

This is truly a great all in one lens. I have been using this with my D7000 and it works flawlessly. The pictures are tack sharp at f8-f22. The VR is nice and actually works better than expected. It has a nice weight to the lens which I like and feels quite sturdy. If you are thinking about an all in one lens, this is the one for you.
