Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this work with the first Sony A7 ? and what would I lose in quality and features?

A: Yes, it's fully compatible with the Sony A7 and no loss in quality or features.

Q: 2. Has anyone purchased the additional Protection Plan?

A: I echo T.F.s response. I also purchased the plan. Whether I use it or not I come out a winner....

Q: 3. Is the 100-400 significantly better performance and optics than the apsc 70-350? I realize that it is FF vs Crop, but am interested in the slightly longer reach and slightly faster aperture.

A: The 100-400 is better in low light being f/5.6 vs 6.3 on the 70-350. And is optically a sharper lens as well.

Q: 4. Can I use this lens with an Arca type L-bracket?

A: I'm not sure whether the question can be answered as asked. An L-Bracket is for a camera, not for a lens. I suppose a partial answer might be "yes, if the L-Bracket is strong enough to support the weight of the FE 100-400." I know from experience, that a light-weight tripod head will not work - too much weight. Hope this helps.

Q: 5. Does this lense need an adapter to be compatible with a A7rii?

A: No.

Q: 6. If I use the 100-400 lens on my a7rii in APS-C mode, will adding a teleconverter take me up to 800mm? And will the image be decent?

A: A 2x will, but I lost the continuous auto focus. The 1.4x will allow the continuous autofocus to work, but is seems a bit slower. The 2x will reach 800mm and the 1.4x will take you up to 540mm. Obviously the teleconverters decrease light to the sensor, as does working the lens to its greatest magnification, but with enough light, the images are excellent. The camera can manage the ISO to get good shots even in lower light environments.

Q: 7. will this lens work using the 2x teleconverter?

A: They will mount , 2Xyou will lose 2 stops of light and it will become f11 , 1.4x you will lose a stop of light becomes f8 , you might loose autofocus

Q: 8. When the OSS switch is turned on, is it necessary to partially depress the shutter release to activate it?

A: When OSS is turned on, you indeed need to activate it with a partial shutter depression. I'm not sure if there is an always on setting, but I imagine it would depend on your camera, and it would probably drain the battery faster.

Q: 9. How much does the lens weigh?

A: Hello. The Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens weighs 49.3 oz (Without tripod mount)/1,395 g (Without tripod mount).

Q: 10. is this compatible with a7RII camera?

A: Hi! Yes. This lens is compatible with the Sony a7RII camera. -Anthony
