The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens from Nikon is a sharp, versatile, and durable telephoto zoom lens with a fast constant maximum aperture, useful in lowlight situations. A workhorse of a lens used by professionals and amateurs alike it is ideal for photojournalism, sports, and wildlife photography and is effective for almost all telephoto applications, including portraiture. An FX format lens, it can also be mounted and used on DX format DSLRs.

The innovative Vibration Reduction (VR II) system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake allowing handheld telephoto shooting even in poorly lit conditions. It offers the equivalent of 3.5 shutter speed stops faster than what the camera is set for. Its Internal Focus System provides fast autofocus without extending the lens and the Silent Wave AF Motor enables quiet and smooth focus adjustment. Full time manual focus override allows for precise manual focus at anytime and the minimum focus distance throughout the zoom range is 4.6' (1.4 m).

Seven extra-low dispersion lens elements minimize chromatic aberration and Nano Crystal Coating reduces ghosting and flare. In addition, Nikon's multilayer Super Integrated Lens Coating minimizes reflections in the wider wavelength range for improved color and clarity. Suited for use in difficult conditions, the lens is weather-sealed with a rubber mount seal and includes a detachable tripod foot and lens hood.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What tripod head would you recommend for this lens? Would you use the same head on a monopod? This is a heavy lens, and it's a bit too unsteady for my current joystick head.

A: There are many tripod heads that will work with that lens and a Nikon D700.This one is a very good ball head and it uses an Arca-Swiss style plate, Acratech GP-ss Ballhead. The link for this is, http://bhpho.to/18UdoxsThis head does not come with a quick release plate. There are many plates. This is a good one that is specific for that lens, Kirk LP-44 Arca - Swiss Quick Release Lens Plate. The link for this is, http://bhpho.to/1coqvSLMonopods can be used in many ways and it is objective. Many only use a quick release and not a head. This is just a quick release that is Arca-Swiss style. It can be used with most monopods. It has 3/8th thread mount, Acratech Quick Release Clamp. The link for this is, http://bhpho.to/1bWlLci

Q: 2. What does the circled '10'on the underside mean?

A: According to a Nikon rep I spoke to in person, the 10 is a European recycling code indicating how much of the lens can be recycled should the lens ever be disposed of. The rumors circulating the Internet, attributed mostly to Ken Rockwell, that the lenses are only designed to last 10 years, are completely false. You'll still get the long life you've always expected of Nikkors.

Q: 3. works with d810?

A: Works great with D800.

Q: 4. Been going back and forth between the older version of this lens, this one(used since im on a budget), and the other 3rd party ones. Im really leaning towards the nikon vr1. I am currently using a d7000 and i wanted to know as far as image quality, does the vr1 match up to the vr2 or is there a world of difference between them both?

A: Hi, Emmitt!I think you are confused. VR performance, which btw is superior on the newer lens, has nothing to do with optical lens quality. It merely gives you ability to hand hold the camera in poor light condition. The older lens works very well with dx bodies. In general, when it comes to the modern lens, it is not a competition between the lens, but rather the competition between the lens and photographer. It is the skill that matters, not VR vs VRII.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D7200 ?

A: Yes, you can use this lens on the D7200. Although this lens is FX format, which is full frame, and the D7200 is DX format, which has a sensor that is 1.5x smaller, it can still be mounted and used. Your field of view will change by 1.5, so an FX format 70-200mm lens on the DX format camera will have the same field of view as a 105-300mm lens on an FX camera.

Q: 6. I have a D700 body. Will this lens give same quality results with a lighter body?

A: I also have a D700 and have tried this lens on my sons D5300 and the performance of the lens is the same.

Q: 7. Does the aperture change when zooming with this lens or is it fixed when set? Thank you

A: This is a constant aperture lens, and will maintain its aperture as you zoom in and out.

Q: 8. I recently purchased the Nikon D5500 and want to ensure this lens is compatible before purchasing?

A: The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens will be fully compatible with the Nikon D5500. This lens can be used with any Nikon DSLR and many of Nikons SLR cameras as well.

Q: 9. is this compatible with a d600?

A: I would look in the the specs of the camera! Sorry I cant help! I have a D7000 camera! I know it said which cameras were not!

Q: 10. What is the warranty on the import version?

A: Included is a Limited 1-Year B&H Warranty.

I bought this lens a few days ago, and as an upgrade to my old version lens,I have to say that it was a good move upgrading to the new lens.First of all, what made a very big difference for me, is that the 70-200 vr ii, is a lot sharper in the corners, when shooting wide open f 2.8. The contrast very much improved, and also a bit sharper in the center again when shooting wide open. The overall feel of the lens is better when hand holding (lens barell a bit thicker and also a bit shorter) , and what I have noticed is that when vrii is on it is more quiet than older version.I am using the new lens on a d 700 (FX) and ther is no evidence of vignetting at all.Love my new lens, and i know that I will get a lot of great pictures for years to come.
