Q: 1. What are the correct HDMI cable to purchase to connect the BM Video Assist to the BM Design Micro Studio 4K?

A: Both the Video Assist and Micro Studio 4k have a 1.0/2.3 DIN connectors for their HD/SDI signal. Canare has a special cable that will allow these two products to work together. The Micro Studio 4k's HDMI output is for monitoring only, not recording, so you would need to use an HD/SDI cable for recording between these two devices.

Q: 2. Can I pair this up with a Canon R6?

A: Yes, you will need an HDMI cable to connect the Canon R6 and Video Assist Monitor.

Q: 3. The expected availability recently went from August to October. Is there a specific reason for this delay or is it a random guess?

A: We were told by Blackmagic the roll out would be delayed. If there was a reason given, it is not known by us sales agents.

Q: 4. Hi, so would I be able to connect my c 100 ii through hdmi and then go out to a field monitor using sdi ?

A: I was told by Blackmagic support that this recorder will not do 3:2 pulldown from 59.94i, nor will it receive record start/stop trigger over HDMI from the handgrip. Unless Canon updates firmware with selectable framerates for HDMI output, this won't work well out of the box. And unless Blackmagic adds basic firmware features like the Atomos product line has had for years, this is just a fancy field monitor that can hold an extra SD card.

Q: 5. is it possible to use an external drive instead of the SD cards?

A: The 3G models do not support external drive recording on the USB. You should consider the 12G models.

Q: 6. Does it accept SanDisk 32 GB SDHC memory cards? If yes, how much time should I expect from that?I'll appreciate any help.

A: The Video Assist does accept 32GB SDHC cards, however you will want to make sure they are fast enough to create large, high quality ProRes Files. We recommend B&H # SAEPSD32GV3A which are SanDisk Extreme Pro 32gb cards. However shooting in ProRes 422 you will only get around 37 minutes of footage. Because ProRes files are so large you may want to invest in 128gb cards, such as B&H # SAEPSD128GV3, which will give you around 2.5 hours of footage.

Q: 7. Is the Kingston 64GB UHS-1 SDXC Memory Card (B&H # KISD64GBU3, MFR # SDA3/64GB) 100% compatible ?

A: The Kingston has matching specifications to the other cards we suggest for the Video Assist so you are good to go.

Q: 8. Does it come with adapters for the mini sdi to regular sdi?

A: No Adapters come with it. B&H sells a few different cable adapters, Male or Female, different lengths. Pro Video Accessories BNC Female to DIN 1.0/2.3 RG-59 SDI Cable - 3' Generally around 16 to 21 dollars depending on lenght

A: With an external recorder like the BM Video Assist, you can get uncompressed video from the EA50 and save to a high quality codec, assuring you of the highest possible image quality.

Q: 10. Does this unit have the capability of Zebra &/or focus peaking?

A: At this time the statuses that have been announced for the BM Video Assist are: Transport controls, recording status, histogram, audio level, timecode, battery status, and more. No mention of zebra or focus peaking. Perhaps they are part of the design. We will find out after it's release.
