Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x and maintain autofocus?

A: The Canon Extender EF 2X III and the 1.4x extender are compatible with the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x Lens (Canon EF). Depending on the camera model it will retain Autofocus.

Q: 2. will this work with the EF 70-200 2.8 iS II and a 7D?

A: Yes. This converter is compatible with that lens. All Canon EOS cameras are compatible but you need to verify that the lens is compatible.

Q: 3. This teleconverter work fine with Canon 18-200mm (3.5-5.6)?

A: Unfortunately, this extender cannot be used with the Canon 18-200mm, since it may cause damage to the camera.

Q: 4. Will the canon 2x extender work with the 5d mark III and the 24-70 2.8l II

A: It will not. They can not fit together. The extender only works with lenses that are the same canon grey color.

Q: 5. Will this auto focus with Canon 500mm f/4L IS & Canon 7D II?

A: Yes. But auto focus is very slow.

Q: 6. Has anyone used this in a low light situation? I know this is used in wildlife photography often but in this case I have to shoot a pretty big concert in 2 weeks and may have to be a little further back than the photo pit right in front of the performing music artist, so will bring this along. Will be using with my 5dIII and 70-200 IS II, so looking for ward to the 140-400 reach i'll have, but I've heard it focus hunts in low light?

A: Correct, the focus will be very slow and will hunt in low light.

Q: 7. will it be compatible with or advisible to use this with canon 55 250 f/4.0 5.6?

A: I'm sorry to say that the 2x Extender will not work with The EF-S 55-250 f/4.0-5.6. I have tried this myself. This is because the lens element of the extender enters into the back of compatible lenses. The rear element opening of the 55-250 is not wide enough to accept the Extender's front element entering to the point that you won't be able to even connect the lens and extender. For some alternative options this 2X Extender pairs pretty much perfectly with the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM II lens if you are willing to shell out that much money. That would give you a 140-400 f/5.6 result. The Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens on its own is also a great option (It is an awesome option if you can find it refurbished or used though a reliable vendor like B&H).

Q: 8. will the ef 2x iii work with the following setup: Canon 5d Mii and Canon ef 70-200 f2.8L IS ( not the II or III) ?

A: The Canon Extender EF 2X III is compatible with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera (B&H # NANPA09COGVT) and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens (B&H # ASMPFHBEI).

Q: 9. Will the extender work with the EF-S series of lenses?

A: EF-S lenses are specifically designed for APS-C digital bodies and optimized for the fact that they have smaller sensor and mirror. EF-S lenses are marked with a white square on the mount instead of a red dot that EF-glass has, and can be only used on EF-S compatible bodies (almost all of smaller-sensor Canon DSLRs, up to EOS 7D).Film and larger-sensor digital cameras (5D, 1D, 1Ds) take only EF lenses. If you have a camera with EF-S mount support (such as EOS 7D, 50D or 500D), you can use both EF and EF-S lenses.

Q: 10. I have an R7 and R5C, will this work with an EF 24-70 and still support autofocus?

A: The Canon Extender EF 2X III is incompatible with zoom lenses that start shorter than 50mm.

I have used the version II of this extender with my EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens and was very satisfied with the results. I now own this 1.4x EF Extender III and am very please to say that the new version is even sharper! Canon acheived to improve on an already very good product which is very impressive. I will also buy a longer lens this spring (Canon EF 300mm or 400mm IS USM) for wild life photography and based on the results I got with my 70-200mm lens, I cant wait to use this Extender on the longer lens!

The extender turns my 70-40,f.4 L lens into a 280 and with my Canon 50D. It worked great for a couple of my granddaughter's softball games -- sharp focus, action frozen, shutter speeds up to 800 to 1000 in both bright mid-day light and even into the early evening. Since my shooting will be mostly these events and being close to the action on the field, the extender is all I need.I have yet to try it with some landscape and wildlife shooting, but if it is done in brighter light I anticipate the same results.I will also give it a try at a minor league baseball game or two later this summer where I will be further away from the action.

On my 1.6 crop (7D) the Canon 1.4 III turns my 70-200 2.8 L MK II into a 156-448 f/4 L zoom. The expected IQ loss is less drastic then I thought it would be and a quick trip through LR takes care of it. Yes, a pixel peeper could find fault - but my 11 x 17 prints look awesome! With any kind of decent availible light, focus is just as lightning quick as without it - in low light (not the reason I got it) it still does pretty darn good with the 7D paired with 2.8 glass. I don't know if I would pair it with slower glass, as I'm a FAST Glass/Focus ADDICT. The UP side: Saves a lot of space (AND WEIGHT!) not having to carry another long lens around. Sold my 300 f/4 L (Awesome lens) so I actualy came out ahead money wise while saving space. One more cool thing: If the shooting situation changes, and I am not in need of a 448 F/4 instrument - I take it off and low and behold, I've got an 70-200 f/2.8 MK II - w00t! The DOWN side: Now I am saving for a 300 f/2.8 L as the reach is addicting: Air-Show, Sports, Wild-Life! And from everything I've read, the 300 2.8 is the top of pops, and takes to the 1.4 converter like an Old Friend, with less IQ loss then my current set-up. Ummm 672MM f/4 L - me want!

hate to admit it, but it was worth $. It's tack sharp on every lens I've tried it on and seems to remove the sluggishness in AF speed that I'm used to when using a TC. I'm impressed for sure...

Was very pleased with the results compared to an off brand extender I had been using.

The 1.4X extender always sits on my 500 f/4. Compared to the old version sharpness has not improved noticeably but CAs have been eliminated now. The older one (MKII) was really sharp too, so I was not expecting an improvement any way. Canon's claims of more accurate AF with the upcoming super telephotos remains to be seen.

im a second shooter for a wedding photographer and also do my own personal work. i use this in conjunction with my 70-200 2.8 and a canon 50d for balcony shots during weddings and also use it for wildlife photography and other personal work. this guy is SHARP....i think it seriously makes my 70-200 sharper....and where can you get a 450mm for 500 bucks? not to mention that a canon 450 weighs a lot more than a 70-200 with a extender on it. with the 450 you can almost always get the Bokeh you want even at an f/4. the only downfall is that it stops the glass down to a f/4 so you have to pretty much use a monopod in low light, and it makes your set-up another 3 longer.
