Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi there will this lens work on a nikon D610?

A: Yes it will! Great lens!.

Q: 2. Will autofocus work on this lens with a Nikon D3300? If not, what would be a similar lens that would allow autofocus?

A: No, this D series lens will not autofocus with cameras in the D3000 or D5000 series. AF-S lenses like the 50mm 1.8G will autofocus on the D3300. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/766516-USA/Nikon_2199_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_8G.html

Q: 3. Can you manual focus with a D750?

A: Aaron,I don't have a D750, but Nikon's Website states that the AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D can be used in the D750, and the f/1.8D allows for manual focus. Just make sure you read your camera's manual to find out how to deactivate auto focus in your camera, as the unit may get damaged if you try to manually focus while still in auto focus mode.

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D810?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G will work with the Nikon D810.

Q: 5. Compatible with F5? Searched for it online and seems like it does but just wanted to make sure before I purchase it.Thanks!

A: I use the AF-S 1.4 G 0n a D600, but Ken Rockwell says the lens and camera are compatible and I'm confident that he's correct.

Q: 6. Will the auto focus on this lens work on a D5300?

A: Unfortunately no, it would be manual focus on the D5300. The D5300 requires lenses that have a focus motor built into the lens. Nikon refers to them as the AF-S series lenses. You can use the 50mm AF-S lens instead. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/1bhjeTyThe 50mm f1.8 G lens is an AF-S series so it will auto focus with the D5300 camera.

Q: 7. WIll this work with the D60?

A: I've use it in the D90. Check the diameter information.

Q: 8. Looking at this lens vs. f/1.8 for a D750 dslr camera. I need a lens that will allow sharp still images of artwork (5'max)with no blurring at edges. Also would I be able to take decent macro plant photos with either lens? Thnx

A: This lens is a relative bargain for its low-light performance and quality of image wide-open. However for both of the applications you mentioned, you should really be stopping down some so I don't think there would be a performance difference under those settings.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with nikon d3100?

A: Yes this lens will work on a Nikon d3100. One thing to keep in mind that was not easy to find in the manual is that the lens needs to be locked in aperture f 22 to work with auto focusing cameras. the camera will actually control the aperture not the lens itself.

Q: 10. There are several reviews that state this lens focuses slowly, that it is soft at wide apertures, and has poor low light performance. Then there are others that say the opposite... Which is the truth? Or is it a matter of poor quality control that is leading to various performance problems? Or just people not twisting knobds and pushing buttons right? Thanks in advance!

A: As with most reviews, user experience is subjective and relative to the performance metrics of other lenses. As far as OEM lenses go, the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G is a great performer for the price point, mostly outperformed only by more expensive lenses but in other focal lengths. A great alternative/upgrade to this would be the Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4, which is also larger.

I have both 1.4G and 1.8G, and my results show that the 1.8G is a bit sharper in the center but the bokeh is not as creamy. If you don't need the extra aperture, go for the 1.8G and save yourself a bit. You wont be sorry.

Strong and well made for such a low price. It is ever so quiet. I have field tested it with over 300 shots before my next Wedding and function. I have no complaints with its performance. I feel Nikkor came up with a less expensive lens that will be used for many years by all experience levels.

I have been using this lens for window-lit food photography and portraits of the kids. I shoot with a D40, and have noticed a few times where I'm getting to bright of blow-outs when shooting outside. Whether the lens or more from the camera being older/slower, I haven't worried to much about it.

I am loving this new lens! It's very versatile and lightweight. Takes great photos and I love the bokeh! I use it mostly for photographing my children, and portraits, but I used it at night for the first time shooting some flowers the other night. The light outside was almost gone, but I got some great shots b/c I could set the aperture so wide. This is a great lens at an affordable price! I also like that I can switch back and forth between manual focus and auto focus.

I have a D7000 & own 2 sets of Leica R series lenses & an Angenieux zoom that i used on my D7000. I bought this lens for situations when I wanted cheaper, decent alternative to my Leica & Angenieux. I hate to say it but it's certainly a better value than my Summicron 50 & the quality is too close. Nikon stepped it up big with these new G lenses, even the ones with out the Nanocrystal coating. The CA is much improved, it's hella sharp wide open & the 9 bladed iris gives u beautiful bokeh like the expensive European lenses. Bottom line it's a steal for the money, no question.

I am using this lens on both my D700 and D300 whenever I need a fast lens in low light situations or need a shallow depth of field. The lens is good at f1.8 but performs best when stopped down slightly. This lens is and feels a little plasticy but has great optics for the price.

This lens is outstanding and the price is right. I had strongly debated between this and the 1.4G, ultimately my penny saving inner voice won and I decided on this one. While I had indoor event photography in mind during my search, this lens is great for that purpose, it has really turned me on to portraiture.

This is hands down, the best lens investment I've made for the money. It's sturdy, reliable and takes super crisp, clear images. Great for portraits and low light shots. The bokeh at 1.8 is AMAZING. This is the lens you want, especially if you're like me and are looking for an affordable nifty fifty to use on a body that lacks an internal AF motor.
