A: As with all autofocus lenses with the Sony E-mount, the Batis lenses are focus by wire : the focus ring has no mechanical coupling to the lens elements.

A: Wrong. Batis lenses are auto focus (AF) lenses on Sony E-mount cameras. The AF works very well. You can MF them but I believe in that mode they are focus by wire.The Loxia family of Zeiss lenses are manual focus only but support auto magnification which makes using them very easy IMHO.

Q: 6. Since this lens has in body stabilization, can anybody confirm or deny if this is is more stable than the Sony FE 85 1.8, for video, in any Sony Camera with IBIS, let's say for example, the A7III?

A: When using telephoto lenses, it is better to use stabilization built into the lens as opposed to in-body image stabilization. As such, if you will be shooting hand-held and may be using slow shutter speeds, then there would be a benefit using the ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E and its internal stabilization. Both lenses are great options, and the Sony lens may have a slight edge in terms of sharpness, but for video usage and hand-held stabilization usage, the ZEISS lens would be recommended.

A: The Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 for Sony E mount will be compatible with the a6000, yes.

I've long known that Zeiss makes excellent glass and this is the first Zeiss lens that I have purchased. With a limited amount of time shooting, I can already say that I am impressed with the performance in multiple areas, notably the focusing speed which is very quick and silent, the image stabilization (paired with the A7riii makes for exceptional low-light performance), and the edge to edge sharpness. I also love the color rendering and can't wait to take this lens out more and more. Is it expensive? Yes, but it's more affordable than the Sony GM and on-par with the Sigma (in terms of price, but it's lighter). In the end, my biggest concern was the maximum aperture of f/1.8 vs. 1.4 with competing lenses. But in using this lens, I personally think that at 85mm you won't notice much (if any) difference in bokeh, but you will certainly notice the weight-savings over the competing lenses. Overall this is an exceptional lens and I am more than satisfied (and glad that I didn't go Sony or Sigma on this one). Now that I've experienced Zeiss first-hand, I am looking forward to getting the 18mm f/2.8 next! 5

I decided in the Zeiss Batis over the Sony 85mm 1.8 only after seeing comparison photos. The Sony seemed nice and was cheaper but the Zeiss Batis 85mm just seemed to have nicer color pop! So far I’ve been very happy with my choice. The lens focus fast and quiet on my Sony A7Iii and I love the images I’m getting! Along with B&H service and quick shipment, I couldn’t ask for more! 5

I purchased this lense to step up my portrait photography and in the past weeks that I’ve been using this lense, I must say it really delivers phenomenal quality. If you can stomach the price, this lense is a fantastic alternative to the Sony 85mm GM lense. 5

So far loving it. I'm older so needed good image stabilization. Impressed with clarity, fast focus and accuracy. The Zeiss quality comes through and cost less than the Sony. Lightweight too. 5

This lens is great enough to handle everything. Great for both video and photo work. And when I got it it was on 24 hour deal last time so it was 900$ so that price was no brainer for this lens which you can get Image Stabilization weather sheld and most amazing image quality (Tact sharp)* 5
