Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Straight out of the box- on an "airgapped" computer system (no internet connection), and using just the included software that is packaged with the scanner- is the maximum photo resolution as advertised at 6400DPI? Or is it like Canon quoting a higher number but in reality only giving you the ability to scan with their software at most at 600 DPI?

A: This scanner has an Optical Resolution of 6400 dpi.

Q: 2. will it scan 120 film format? is there a frame included? how many negatives can be scaned at at time and how long does it take? I plan to scan 6x6 negatives.

A: It does scan 120 film format negatives using the included film frame. The film frame opening is approximately 2-3/16 x 8-5/8 . Be sure to place the shiny side of the negative downward toward the scanner bed. You may want to use a dpi setting between 3000 to 4000. You also want to turn off Digital Ice. It doesn't work well with silver based negatives.

Q: 3. Is it compatible with Fujifilm X-T2?

A: Yes, the Godox ML-150 II Macro Ring Flash compatible with the Fujifilm X-T2 but a end-uer must be mindful that there will be no TTL communication. The Godox ML-150 has to be used in all manual mode.

Q: 4. Can it scan film without a film holder? Can I just lay it on the glass?

A: Technically you should use a holder. With out a holder it will scan the full size and so exposures can be way off. Some do make there own holder. But that will take trial an error.

Q: 5. Does this have wireless connection?

A: I'm sorry, no, this scanner does not have wireless capability.

Q: 6. What are the primary differences between the Epson Perfection V550 and the Epson Perfection V600? Thanks

A: The general specifications of the two are about the same, the major difference in the two is the software included with each. The V600 comes with more programs to work with and they are overall better programs, including the following: Epson Scan with Epson Easy Photo Fix technology, Epson Event Manager, Epson Copy Utility, Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus OCR, and Digital Ice. The V550 only comes with Epson Scan with Epson Easy Photo Fix and ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus OCR. The one thing the V550 can do which the V600 cannot is batch scanning. It can scan: 35 mm Film Strip at 12 frames at a time, 35 mm Slides 4 slides at a time, and 6 cm Medium Format: Up to 22 cm at a time.

Q: 7. Can I use Silverfast SE 8 software I own with this scanner?

A: You can use the Silverfast SE 8 software you already own with the V600, yes.

Q: 8. Does this scanner scan color photos? Can I scan 12x12 scrapbook pages on it?

A: Yes, it scans color photos. According to its specs, it cannot scan 12 x 12"; it has a maximum scan area of 8.5 x 11.7".

Q: 9. which scanner models are good for scanning objects?

A: A scanner is not for scanning objects, you are better off using a camera.

Q: 10. what is the biggest print size I can get out of this scanner with a 35mm film neg?

A: I am going to assume you are concerned with the quality of the image as you try to make it larger. The scanner will allow you to scan the film negative at its original size (35mm). The quality of the image when it is processed and enlarged with photo editing software will be dependent on the quality of the original negative and the resolution that you use to scan the negative. The scanner's (Epson Scan) software allows you select very high resolutions to help with this issue. If you are not familiar with image resolution and how to process images for good print quality, I suggest you study some resources on the topic to gain a better understanding of how this works. This scanner is a good quality desktop scanner and is capable of producing very good scans. Certainly good enough for most photo reproduction projects. The maximum size of the image is really just limited by the photo printer, not the scanner.
