This is an upgrade from Spectrasonics Omnisphere version 1 to Omnisphere Power Synth, the flagship virtual instrument that combines a wide variety of real-time synthesis techniques with a huge 64GB core sound library. To hold all of this together while providing an elegant and easy-to-use interface, the development team at Spectrasonics created the STEAM Engine.

The STEAM Engine allows the user to process already interesting core samples with an intriguing set of synthesis and effects processor, thereby transforming the core material into truly inspiring sounds. The user interface features progressive layers of zooming that can be used by a wide range of users - from musicians who just want to be inspired by the sounds and customize them in an easy way, to the most advanced sound designers.

The sounds in the core library were acquired using various techniques including a new Composite Morphing Technique (CMT) which morphs the harmonic characteristics of one instrument to another. Additionally, new sound sources have been added including Diego Stocco's custom built instruments, circuit bent instruments, granular synthesis, and melodic cave stalactites.

Eight independent arpeggiators can be used in a single multi-timbral instrument to allow for creating complete compositional sections. However, the real beauty of these arpeggiators is that they can be synchronized to the feel of any RMX drum loop via Groove Lock or any other MIDI file. This means no more conflicting rhythmic feels. Additionally, sounds can be modulated by multiple LFOs or by using advanced multi-breakpoint looping envelopes.

A: I see this question is old, but only one of the answers is correct, so I wanted to set this straight. I just purchased this upgrade version (March of 2021). If there were disks in 2015 that's NOT how it comes now. It is a download code only. It also does not come in a box as is pictured at the top of this page. It's just a sleeve with the code inside. Dominic's answer is only partially correct. The upgrade download is the WHOLE app (60gb NOT 20) regardless of whether or not Onmisphere 1 is currently installed on the computer in question. (You DO have to already have version-1 REGISTERED with Spectrasonics.) All of this information is detailed on the Spectrasonics web site if you want to verify my answer. Yes, be prepared, it's a lengthy process. I started the download just before going to bed & the downloader app estimated 4+ hours. It was done when I got up so I don't know if that was accurate or not. Also, that's just the "download" part. "Installing" takes another chunk of time. Anyway, I hope this clears up any confusion. A: This product currently comes as a flip-out USB drive rather than DVDs. It is the same product otherwise.

A: VST and Audio Units virtual instruments are supported in Sibellius starting from version 5. MOTU MachFive 3 includes Audio Units, VST and RTAS formats as well as standalone operation.
