A: Speed is adjustable. Slow, normal and fast. I have found the zoom on the camera to be really easy to use. When using a tripod I use a remote zoom as well. That is my favorite, when possible, because of the size of the paddles.

A: The XF100 includes an XLR and a 1/8 mini plug input for audio. It has a very professional audio setup and it's very versatile. As long as you use one of those connectors (which are the standard), you should have no problem plugging in.

A: In movie making, like many endeavors, so much of the process is about selecting the proper tool. Here, there is the choice of the two most basic microphones. It is a pretty easy selection. I like to suggest when you are doing a sit down interview, you clip the lavaliere (lapel) microphone on the interviewee and have the shotgun on the camera live for back up audio as well as picking up the interviewer. When doing a stand up or a moving interview, then the shotgun only. Do know shotguns are best for sound at 1' to 10' distances. They do not pick up sound from far away.
