Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the diameters of the sections?

A: As per the manufacturer, the diameters of each section are as follows: 52mm, 48mm, 44mm, 41mm, 37mm, 34mm, and 31mm.

Q: 2. Looking to support a Sony 200-600 and a7RII using the mounting point on the lens. Seems like that may be too heavy. Any experience out there?

A: It can hold the weight of that large lens and camera well. The issue is that the grip will be far forward from where the camera is, so you will need to extend your arm a lot to press on the grip and move the camera at the same time to set the angles. Also the connection point of the quick release plate is small while the foot of the lens is large, so will be hard to find the plate underneath the foot of the lens. A gimbal like this will be easier to use with a long lens like that. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1458852-REG/magnus_gh_m1_gimbal_head.html

Q: 3. Will this fit an old Bogen tripod?

A: It will fit any base as long as it has the matching 1/4-20 threaded stud or hole. Sort of like a screw & nut. Take the tripod to a hardware store and ask what size thread you have on it. If it's not 1/4-20, it will not work.......

Q: 4. Can the tripod head be changed out?

A: Unfortunately, the tripod head is fixed on the SA1241.

Q: 5. Can the head still be leveled when attached to this pin like a normal bowl, or is it static?

A: It will be static. If you use it on a slider and adaptor S2080-0005 between tripod and slider, you can level with S2080-0005.

Q: 6. how stable is the camera in a breeze? Any rock or waviness?

A: It is recommended to use the Studio Assets Stabilization Spreader Kit for the MegaMast, BH # STSA1250 for further stabilization on this stand. https://bhpho.to/31OL1PV

Q: 7. Has anyone used this with binoculars mounted on a monopod? Did it work well?

A: While it is possible to mount a pair of binoculars that have a 1/4" tripod thread on the bottom to this pistol grip head while mounted on a monopod, it has not been tested to our knowledge. Your results may vary.

Q: 8. What is the width of the top plate and of the column?

A: The top is approximately 2.5" and the column approximately 1.25".

Q: 9. What is the max payload if the center column be used horizontall, like a boom pole?

A: The manufacturer has not published information on its weight capacity when used horizontally as this seems like an atypical use-case of the stand. Please contact the manufacturer directly for more information.

Q: 10. can you use a L bracket with this head?

A: Yes, We suggest using the following item. Manfrotto Q2 L Bracket BH #MAQ2LB • MFR #MS050M4-Q2 https://bhpho.to/3H2uFq3

I would always have such a hard time with the basic tripod heads, and when searching online for an alternative came across a video with this pistol grip. I have not looked back since. It was strong enough to hold a projector and tray (says it can hold up to 18lbs of weight) and it holds true so far! I would absolutely buy again if I ever needed to.

Just buy it. The quickness you can move with a pistol grip ball head is amazing. Wish I had bought one sooner. Be aware that when you first get this ball head it will have a 1/4 20 screw adapter installed on the base. You'll need a flat head screwdriver to gently give a few turns to take it out so you'd be able to attach it to the 3/8-16 Thread on your Tripod.
