The ADI-6432R from RME is 64-channel format converter, that features conversion from MADI to AES/EBU, and vice versa. MADI handles 64 channels of 24-bit audio at sampling frequencies up to 48kHz, 32 channels up to 96kHz and 16 at 192kHz. Dual redundant power supplies offer fail-safe operation for broadcasters and other professionals.

All channels are transferred across a single cable, using either a coaxial (BNC) or optical network cable. Typical applications could include two units for use as a digital multi-core, or a single unit used as AES/EBU front end for the Hammerfall DSP MADI PCI card.

The unit features RME's SteadyClock, which provides very low jitter operation. Intelligent Clock Control retains the last valid sample frequency in case of a loss of the input signal. The front panel contains almost 100 LEDs for accurate and exact display of signal status. Errors can be spotted instantly and corrected, and the control keys can be locked to prevent accidental changing of settings.

64-channel MADI/AES format converter

Support for up to 192kHz sample rates with MADI and AES

SteadyClock allows for use of MADI without an additional word clock connection, and guarantees excellent clock quality in every situation

Due to the highly efficient jitter reduction, any clock signal - even AES and word - can be improved and refreshed, and subsequently be used as reference clock at the unit's outputs

Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) retains the last valid sample frequency in case of a loss of the input signal

Supplies word clock in Single, Double and Quad Speed, distributes Double Wire 96kHz signals into the MADI data stream and to the AES ports and supports the double MADI sample rate (96k frame)

SyncAlign and SyncCheck technologies ensure perfect synchronization and clear detection of errors

Extensive status displays give information about Lock and Sync states, audio content and the physical quality of the incoming signal

Every function has its own keys accompanied by clear function LEDs, allowing errors to be detected at a glance

A fully automatic input selection between optical and coaxial input offers a useful redundancy mode for critical applications

Multiple units can be stacked and operated sample-aligned, using Wordclock

MADI Merge, using two units, allows two MADI streams to be merged from two sources, and sent on via a single MADI cable. Useful in situation where the two sources are not utilizing their full sixty-four channel counts

The unit can be also used as a MADI to MADI converter. For instance, an AMS Neve Logic DFC only accepts the fifty-six channel input format. The ADI-6432 can read either format at its input or output

The ADI-6432R can be used as an extender for serial cables, with no effect on the audio functionality, thanks to a RS232 9-pin COM port (9600, 19200, or 115200 Baud)

16 MIDI channels can be transferred across MADI even with 64 audio channels

The device can be fully remote controlled and configured via MIDI and all status displays can be queried through MIDI

Each unit in a multiple-unit setup can be given a separate ID, allowing separate remote control of the devices utilizing only a single MIDI channel

All settings are stored when the unit is switched off

Compatible to MADI interfaces of companies like Sony, Merging, Lawo, Euphonix, Stagetec, Jünger, Audio Service, AMS and others

Redundant power supply which can be connected to two different electrical circuits - if one of these circuits fails, the unit will continue to operate normally

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I need to know which cable I can use the Lc/Lc single or Duplex and what is the different between both ?

A: The adapter on the box is LC, but you don't have to use an LC to LC fiber. I use LC to ST dual Single Mode fiber. You'll want to make sure you're using dual single mode so you can send and receive a signal.

Q: 2. How are people mounting these for on location use? Needing to use it at a camera operator station with a tripod setup.

A: The Blackmagic Design ATEM Camera Converter is meant to sit in a rack shelf and has no mounting points. I suggest in a portable solution, using a projector stand.

Q: 3. does the either input come out both outputs simultaneously?

A: Yes the input will appear on both outputs. If the Program button is pushed the return video will output.

Q: 4. Where are the tally LEDs? I don't see them on the photos.

A: According to Blackmagic "When a camera is on air a red LED illuminates on the ATEM Camera Converter and a red tally border is displayed on the converter's SDI and HDMI monitoring outputs!" https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemconverters

Q: 5. If camera connected to camera converter by sdi and monitor connected from camera converter by sdi, then switching between camera view & return PGM view on SDI out of camera converter is seamless (pseudo seamless - quick glitch in ms, as on sdi router videohub ) or fade thru black (1-3 s black) ??? REALLY need help after testing, not in theory !!!!!

A: Since the two signals (Camera and return Program) are not synchronous, the switching will not be seamless.

Q: 6. Do you use the same unit to encode and decode? Has anyone running ATEM Converters with the Blackmagic Design ATEM Studio Converter 2?

A: Yes, we do it both ways regularly

Q: 7. How does this connect to BMD Studio cameras and talkback converter? Can the in/out SDI of camera be connected to this then Fiber in/out of this to talkback converter?

A: Also if you are using the BMD studio cameras you can use either the blackmagic camera convertor that uses fiber or use the blackmagic camera convertor 4K that uses SDI. The BMD studio cameras has the camera convertor built in so you do not need to add this extra piece to the system. You need just the receiving end in either the fiber version or sdi version and both versions will carry signal, talkback, and tally.

Q: 8. How long does the battery last on these units?

A: We normally use them on shore power but have used them for three hour broadcasts with no issues.

Q: 9. Can i connect both cameras to a video switcher and use only the program out to connect to the BDM Camera converter?? As we want only the program out to be send to another broadcast room.

A: The Camera Converter is a single camera device used to connect via fiber to the ATEM Studio/Talkback Converter and the ATEM. It is also designed to bring Program video back to the Camera Converter for local monitoring, tally and talkback.

Q: 10. I am looking for a talk back device in the control room, i have an BM ATEM 1 ME, I have BM Studio Cameras connected to the ATEM 1 ME, I would like to communicate with the camera operators but don't have the talk back XLR's on my ATEM switch. I was hopping this device would give me the ability to talk from the control room to the other BMSC operators?

A: The ATEM 1Me will not give you any option for talk back.If your connecting the BMD Studio converter to a Black Magic camera converter with LC Duplex fiber (single mode) you can plug your head set into the BMD Studio Converter (located back at the production space) and talk to as many cameras that you connect to with fiber.

With the d4s only having one cf card. This card blows away the cf card in both reading and writing. Only issue I had was I bought a reader to only find out that it was included. Sent extra reader back to B&H without any problems.

Use theses cards for my FS7. Work great, small, and solid build. A lot cheaper than my SxS cards cost back in 2009.

I use this card in a Nikon D4s with long lens for bird photography. It's a great card for high speed, low light applications.
