Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. a7iv have pre-capture or pre-shoot for either still or video?

A: The Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera does not have a Pre-Capture feature.

Q: 2. Does this camera have a port for a PC Sync Cord for studio lights? If not, what do u recommend?

A: The Sony A7IV does not have a PC sync port. I wireless flash trigger such as this Vello would be recommended instead: https://bhpho.to/3szS3FZ In my opinion the Vello trigger is a better option even for cameras that have a PC sync port because it is safer and no cable gets in the way.

Q: 3. Does this camera has night vision ?

A: The Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera does not have a night vision mode, but it is good in low light.

Q: 4. Hello! When I shooting Video, using Active Video Stabilize. What exactly crop factor? Thanks!!!

A: The active video stabilize mode in the Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera is about a 1.1x crop.

Q: 5. Does this camera have clear image zoom for 4k video?

A: Sony's "Clear Image" digital zoom is available at 2x magnification, standard digital zoom up to 4x, and "Smart Zoom" is available where the camera just crops away the unused portion of the image when a lower resolution is selected.

Q: 6. Will we have the same amount of focus points and snappiness for real time eye AF in Super 35 4k60p mode like in full sensor read out mode aka 4k24p/30p?

A: The full frame Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera (B&H# SOA74) has 759 on-sensor phase detection focus points as well as 425 contrast detection points. They reside in the center 94% of the sensor image area, leaving only a thin border around them without such designated points. However, when shooting in cropped (APS-C/Super 35) mode, the number of such points is about half of those figures. According to the AF algorithm, the camera will choose the appropriate point(s) at which to focus and then use that/those focus point(s) to attain critical focus. In AF-S mode, the additional step of using contrast AF to confirm focus is used to maximize accuracy. . . at the cost of very slightly reducing focus speed. Since cropped mode reduces the number of points from which to choose, it's possible that focus is very slightly faster when shooting like that. . . but from our experience it's just not noticeable as once the point(s) has/have been selected the actual focusing is the same speed. The area that point is in doesn't make it any faster, whether that's in the wider, full frame, or the APS-C/Super 35 middle part of the frame. If focus speed is a concern, be sure to shoot in AF-C and continuous mode with focus speed set at maximum. In video mode, set AF Transition Speed to 7 (i.e. fastest). Relatedly, if you want the focus to jump quickly to new subjects specifically that may be entering the frame then also set AF Subj. Shift Sensitivity to 7. (You won't set the AF Subj. Shift Sensitivity to a high number (such as 7) if you want focus to stay on the current subject of focus for tenaciously.)

Q: 7. Does Eye AF work with any lens? Or does the lens need to be compatible?

A: While it does work with any native auto-focus capable E mount lens, the mileage varies. Generally the Sony lenses perform the best, other options like Tamron, Sigma and Samyang as an example would also work.

Q: 8. Is there a timer remote (like a Vello Shutterboss) compatible with the A7iv?

A: Yes. The same Vello Shutterboss units made for the A7RIV, A1, and A7SIII are compatible with the A7IV (USB-C and multi-USB ports): https://bhpho.to/3HGTlF0

Q: 9. On Sony's website it lists the bitrate in XAVC HS 4K as follows: 60p (200 Mbps / 100 Mbps) 24p (100 Mbps / 50 Mbps). Why are there 2 numbers for each frame rate? What is the real bitrate for those frame rates? Thanks

A: When you're selecting a frame rate, you get to choose what options fit best for you. When you select XAVC HS 4K you have more than two options to select from. As an example if you're on 60p, you have the following options. 45mbps being the lowest and 200 being the highest. 45M 4:2:0 10bit 75M 4:2:0 10bit 100M 4:2:2 10bit 150M 4:2:2 10bit 200M 4:2:2 10bit

Q: 10. warranty only cover USA?

A: Unfortunately, the warranty from Sony included with the A7 IV is valid in the US only. However, we do offer the Allstate protection plans which offer international coverage. They can be seen by adding the camera to your online cart.
