Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I need to mount a 62mm filter on a 72mm lens, do I need a step up ring or a step down ring?

A: You would need a 62mm to 72mm step down ring.

Q: 2. If I use a step up ring 67mm - 77mm , will this cause vignetting?

A: No, stepping up 10mm's will not cause vignetting.

Q: 3. Can it work with NiSi S6 150mm Filter Holder Adapter Ring for Standard Filter Threads 105, 95, and 82mm ?

A: This ring will allow for an adapter with a 105mm thread to fit a lens with a 95mm thread.

Q: 4. Would this ring permit the use of 55mm threaded filters on a lens with a Series VII filter-thread? The Leica R 90mm f2 (old version, not the later version) is the lens I have in mind.

A: No, that adapter is for lenses that have a 54mm thread. Series 7 is not 54. If you have a retaining ring, most of those are 54 mm it might work. But the adapter alone will not work. This is a retaining ring, General Brand Series 7 Retaining Ring BH #GBRRS7 https://bhpho.to/3bJHVPU

Q: 5. Looking to use this on my sigma 18-35 f1.8. With a filter on it, will there be vignetting?

A: You could use the Heliopan 72-77mm Step-Up Ring (#141) on the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens. You will not get vignetting but you will not be able to use the lens hood.

Q: 6. Does using a 62 mm lense instead of a 52 mm lense make a difference in photo quality?

A: In general, no. However, it can be used to prevent vignetting on a wide angle lens with a standard ring polarizer or when stacking more than one filter on a lens.

Q: 7. is this 43x0.5 or 43x0.75?

A: The Heliopan 43-46mm Step-Up Ring (#243) has a 0.75 thread pitch.

Q: 8. Hi, do you know if this lens will fit a Lomo 16-opf-12-1 Zoom 10-100mm? The thread seems to be around 75mm but I'm not sure.

A: Unfortuantely, we are not sure. It appears the LOMO 16OPF 12-1 Cine zoom lens 10-100/2.5 16mm lens is an older Russian lens that has since been discontinued. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any information listing the filter thread size for this lens.

Q: 9. Is some vignetting expected when using this step up ring at wider apertures? Can vignetting be reduced by stopping down?

A: One should not expect vignetting when using the Heliopan 49-62mm Step-Up Ring (#175). The 62mm filter will be significantly wider than the 49mm lens threading and should not get into the image at all.

Q: 10. I need to step up from 48mm to 77mm. Can I use this ring in combination with a 58 to 77mm ring?

A: To mount 77mm filters on a lens with 48mm threads, you can use the Heliopan 48-58mm Step-Up Ring (#184) with any 58-77mm Step-Up Ring. Sensei PRO 58-77mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring, BH #SESURPA5877, is a good option.

Very well machined, with a beautiful matte black finish. Works as advertised, allowing me to use 58mm filters from another lens on a 55mm diameter lens. Only caveat is that my slim circular polarizer is a bit tricky to get off, since by the time I have used it for a day of shooting, the threads are fairly tightly seated.

Does what it says it does. I recently got into film photography and have a bunch of colored 58mm filters. The lenses I have have smaller filter rings, so I got this.

This is a very simple accessory and my requirement is that it only has to be of strong construction so it doesn't break and fit firmly and perfectly. It does.

I bought this better quality ring because I wanted to use it to mount a heavy teleconverter. Earlier I bought a cheap one for a lighter use. It works but is not as well made and does not have the smooth feel of the B+W.

I bought this to attach a 58mm circular polarizer to my 55mm lens. It works GREAT! I'm so glad I can use my polarizer with both lenses for such an affordable price.

I am a world ranking bird lister who has been vidio digiscoping birds for about 5 years now. I have found a unique way of attaching a digital HD video camcorder to a spotting scope. The key is to get the camcorder as close as possible to the scope eye piece without touching! I remove the lens hood to my camcorder and then attach the 37-52 step-up ring to the filter ring on the camcorder. Then I have put together a cylinder of 52-55mm step-up rings attached to a 55-52mm step-down rings in order to make a nice 2 inch 52mm cylinder that fits over the eye piece of my scope. In this way, my camcorder is fixed very nicely on the scope for me to take video. When I am not taking HD video, I can remove the camcorder and ring cylinder in a second in order to just use the spotting scope to look at birds!

Even though $20.00 sounds like a steep price, I bought a 9+ used Sensei to use until this one arrived backordered. The difference is HIGHLY recomended if you don't want to unscrew your Protection Lens etc.. The difference between the two is simply unexplainable. Well worth the expense for serious trial and error photography. I used this for my B+W Rubber Hood, to alleviate Vignetting on my Nikon D3500 55mm Kit Lens. Perfect.

As a Skydiving Photographer/Videographer, versatility is the name of the game. Owning every possible size of filter you might need is financially impossible. So having Step-Up Rings to adapt to the moment, and the equipment necessary, is essential. They can aslo be useful in avoiding vignetteing.
