The opening for the flash itself is a good 2 inches too high for the pop-up flash to reach it. The only thing I can recommend (if you really want the Ringbox) is an external flash unit with a swivel head that's compatible with your camera (if your camera has an external accessory hot shoe), or you can look into something like a Bolt VM-110 Macro LED Ring Light that also requires standard hot-shoe but brings it 's own light source, so you don't have to buy a separate external flash unit (the Ringbox and the Bolt VM-110 are about the same price). The VM-110 is AA battery powered and LED driven and has adjustable camera/lens mounts that adjusts to many different DSLR and 35 mm SLR cameras. If you have a standard DSLR, this ring-light will probably work on it.

A: The focus assist will be blocked on your flash. But, TTL goes through the lens, so metering and TTL will still work with the Ringbox.

A: Mehi S, I have a 16-35mm Canon lens and it will fit, but you'll need to use the auto focus option since you will not be able to manually focus. My lens is 82 mm wide. I do't know how wide your 17-40 L mm lens is so you'll have to judge for yourself. The one thing that I should point out about the Vello Ringbox Ringflash head is that a grommet holding the spreader arm which hold the form when this soft box light ring is open up pulled out after just two uses. Kind of makes the item useless. Haven't used it since. Very disappointing.
