Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this drive compatible with Yosemite OS (10.11.3)?

A: Yes, I have not had any problems.

Q: 2. Can I connect this to an android tablet and play DVDs?

A: Probably not. I bought an adapter cable to convert the 30 pin charging and I/O port on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to a USB host port. The adapter worked fine with an SD card reader but the LG player failed to connect due to excessive power requirements. I then inserted a powered USB hub which allowed the player to enumerate but the Galaxy did not know about the player and disconnected. My recommendation is to transfer the DVD files to an SD card then play the content from the SD card. My Galaxy does not have DVD file playback software but I assume it is readily available.

Q: 3. Is this fully compatible with Linux? We have had two LG burners (different models) in the past; one of them worked fine under Linux, but the other one, while it could burn discs successfully, it could not read them back or boot from them under Linux without garbling the data. Thanks.

A: The LG GP65NW60 is not showing any Linux support, which would be driver dependent for more advanced features, or even proper usage.

Q: 4. How do I copy a VHS tape to DVD , and do you sell that kind of equipment at your store

A: We carry converters like the Roxio VHS to DVD Burner 3 (https://bhpho.to/2SQrnyi) and Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (https://bhpho.to/3lzPhKI).

Q: 5. will it work with 10.14.2 (Mojave OS) ?

A: Yes, macOS X 10.7.5 and up.

Q: 6. can I install software using this?

A: Absolutely. This is the best investment we have made. We are an Apple school with approximately 75 PC laptops, and laptops simply do not come with optical drives anymore. This drive works platform independent; it can play CDs or DVDs, it can burn, and we use them to install software and make packages for installation. Five stars! You cannot beat the price for the ROI.

Q: 7. Will it work with Google Chrome?

A: I used it to load software onto my MAC desktop. Don't remember if I've ever used it for any Google Chrome application.

Q: 8. Is this disc drive compatible with Apple laptops?

A: Yes, the LG GP65NB60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive (Black) BH #LGGP65NB60 is compatible with Apple laptops.

Q: 9. How long is the cable ?

A: The manufacturer does not specify the length of the cable incldued with the LG GP65NB60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive (Black) BH #LGGP65NB60.

Q: 10. Will this work on one of the new macbook pro models with a USB-C to USB dongle?

A: I've never tried that, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't if you have the right dongle. I don't think it is dependent on DOS or Apple system software. Hopefully, someone who uses it on a Mac can answer this better than I.
