Q: 1. If I use this remote with the Photogenic AKC 50BK Strobe Kit will this allow me to use flash sink speeds above 250?
A: No, it will not. The Photogenic StudioMax III Constant Color 320 W/S Monolight is a fully manual monolight; it is not a TTL-compatible monolight unit and will not be compatible with High Speed Sync. Photogenic does not manufacture TTL monolights with High Speed Sync capability, and the Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Triggering System Kit does not add TTL or HSS capabilities to the monolight. However, the units can be used to trigger the monolights wirelessly; you would simply have to set the output power of the flash manually on the unit, and your maximum flash sync speed will be limited to your camera's standard flash sync speed.
Q: 2. Does this unit support groups and Canon's ratio system? Can you control flash output with the camera's menu system as well as the transmitter?
A: I would like to be able to help you out with your questions but I have not yet used my transmitter/receiver and I am unable to answer your questions. I am impressed with the build quality and I also like the fact you can mount a strobe directly on top of the receiver. Having the capability of syncing up to 1/8,000 sec. is a nice feature. I don't want to give you an incorrect answer until I've actually used the units.
Q: 3. Does this include a power cable for the Rx?
A: I'm not sure what you mean by Rx. The kit includes 2 cables. One is a 2.5mm to 2.5mm shutter release cable and the other is a 2.5mm to 3-pin shutter release cable. These cables should allow you to use this as a shutter release for any Canon camera.
Q: 4. Is this system compatible with the Nikon D7200? Any loss of functionality with the 7200?
A: I use it with D610 and D5000! Both work really great!
Q: 5. Does it support ETTL-II? And can you adjust the flash compensation exposure from camera?
A: I should also clarify, that you cannot set the power level (different setting than flash compensation) or the zoom from the camera menu. You can adjust the EV level by =/- 3 EV on the transmitter and you can use the flash compensation on the camera menu. In manual mode, you will need to set the power level and zoom on the flash unit. You may wish to look at the Vello Freewave Aviator kit.
Q: 6. Is it compatible with Nikon d780?
A: The Freewave Captain willwork with your nikon 780
Q: 7. Hi! I have a 70d , buy these radios along with a flash Bolt VX 760C and 430EX canon, but I can not shoot the two flash only fires the 430, the communication if it works, I'm doing wrong ? please help me! Thank you!
A: Carlo's sorry, I cant really help. I do use 430 flash, no experience with the other flash. I shoot with 60D bodies. I did not keep my vello's they over exposed everything by 3+ stops. I returned them right away, coughed up a bit more money and bought the Phottix Odin system. I love that one! no problems. still cant say if it would fire the bolt flash. one thing, do you have the contacts properly aligned???
Q: 8. Hello. Can you use M mode of camera with Manual flash power mode? Just use flash, not control power level and exposure. Not TTL and not Auto exposure. If you have D300, D700 or over 8 flame per second CH mode. Can you use it?Poket wizard can use over 10 frame per second. If you can test, please tell me result.Best regards.Yuki
A: You can definitely use the manual exposure mode on the camera and trigger the flash unit with manual flash power set using these triggers. Using the triggers as a shutter release you should also be able to use the continuous high seeing on the camera as well. Im not sure about using the continuous high setting with flash triggering as I dont know of any flash units that would have that quick of a recycle time. In theory it should work though if the flash was ready that quickly.
Q: 9. Does this work with the nikon z8 and will it trigger the SB-5000?
A: Yes, the Vello FreeWave Captain Wireless TTL Triggering System for Nikon i-TTL SLRs may be used with the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Digital Camera. It may be used with the Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash, but do note you would have to use the included Vello receiver in the kit on the hot shoe of the Nikon SB-5000 Flash, and not the flash's built-in wireless radio for wireless communication purposes.
Q: 10. Can I control my 580ex II manually using the captien ttl transmitter?
A: I have done this just using manual setup on the strobe. I tend to do a couple of stop difference from side to side, with a reflector and a thru-umbrella on the other side, just to get more interesting variation in the image. I have also use a manually set 580, and that works fine doing it manually.
