Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the autofocus function work on this adapter?

A: Autofocus is not supported on Nikon lenses (look closely and you see there are no electrical contacts on it. But don't feel bad; here is a link to an article of the many limitations on the lenses that are supported. Manual focus is best when possible anyway.

Q: 2. Will the Nikon to MFT models work with strong telephoto zoom lenses such as the Tamron 150-600mm lenses on a Panasonic GH5 camera? If so what would the effective focal length be when using a 150-600mm zoom lens on a GH5.

A: The physics of the focal reducer is to concentrate the light such that the light that would normally expand to a larger image circle (that would cover a 35 mm sensor or a slightly smaller APS-C sensor) instead gets concentrated to a smaller image circle. Thus, irrespective of the type of lens (as long as it attaches to it), it will reduce the effective focal length by .63X (or 0.71x, depending on the Speed booster strength you get) relative to an empty-tube adapter. Because of the light concentration, the effective F-stop will increase by one stop for a 0.71x reducer (2^-1/2) or by 4/3 stop for a 0.63X reducer (2^-4/3/2).Finally, because the M43 sensor is 1/2 the area of the 35 mm sensor (the standard from which the advertised focal lengths are calculated) a 2x crop factor is applied because only the light in the center of the lens is detected by the smaller m43 sensor. This is because the 35 mm lens projects an image circle to 2x the area of the m43 sensor. Thus a focal reducer puts more total acquired light onto the m43 sensor. Therefore, a 0.63x focal reducer gives an effective crop factor of 0.63x x 2x = 1.26X from the 35 mm advertised number. This will make your Tamron 150-600mm lens (based on 35 mm focal lengths) a 189-756mm lens on your GH5 FOR TAKING PHOTOS. Panasonic cameras often reduce the amount of sensor used for 4K or 1080p recording compared to taking photos; this will increase the crop factor and therefore increase the effective focal length. However, I think the GH5 uses nearly the full frame for 4K or 1080P video recording, so that the crop factor on your camera for video recording may not be greatly increased relative to that seen for taking photos. To more directly address the first half of your question, it SHOULD work with the Tamron lens, irrespective of the strength of your lens (I presume you mean the telephoto capacity by strength ). Because all you are doing is concentrating light, there may not be an improvement in image quality on relative basis (I have not noticed an improvement in detail in photos, only that the images are constrained to a smaller number of total pixels). It will probably only help if you need to make the image brighter, or are taking an image in a darker environment.

Q: 3. Will this head fit on Manfrotto 500BALL 100mm Half Ball Bowl ?

A: This is a 75mm Bowl Tripod head. You will need a 100mm-75mm Bowl adapter to use this in a 100mm half ball bowl.

Q: 4. How is this version compared to Ultra for Blackmagic Pocket 4K use? Which is best.

A: Speed Booster Ultra models widen the field of view by 0.71x and give you a 1 Stop Increase in Light. While the XL Models give you 0.64x and a 1.3 Stop Increase in light. That is the difference between this model and BH #MESPNFGM43B3. https://bhpho.to/2mFmebJ

Q: 5. Just curious if my vintage Nikon NIKKOR ais lenses would work with this speed booster.

A: Yes this would work with your vintage Nikon Nikkor AIS lenses.

Q: 6. Do you control the aperture on from the lens itself or do you leave the lens wide open and control aperture from the speed booster? Thanks!

A: You can adjust the speedbooster to control aperture.

Q: 7. I would like to adapt the Nikon 24-70mm 1:2.8G ED lens to micro four thirds. Since it is a G lens it has no aperture control How do the F numbers on the speedbooster (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) translate into F stops in my lens?

A: The numbers on the Speed Booster are reference numbers for 1 stop increments. The adapter allows 1-7 stops of adjustment. 1 being max aperture on your lens and 7 being closed down, ie; 22.

Q: 8. Is there a finite amount of uses for the illuminated bubble level or can it be used indefinitely? Not sure if it needs a battery

A: The ACE XL MKII illuminated bubble is battery powered and there is a limit. The limit would be in years. And you can replace the battery if needed. The ACE head battery replacement is the following. Energizer B/CR1225 Coin Lithium Battery BH #ENBCR1225

Q: 9. It works with Panasonic's new model in G7?

A: Hello, Yes it works on the Panasonic G7. We use it on ours almost all the time, in combination with our G7 as a 'B' camera to our Panasonic GH4. We are using it with the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Nikon mainly for video. But have used it with our other Nikon (DX) lenses for some photography as well. It really is a nice combination that provides a very pleasing shallow depth of field or Bokeh. We have also used the original Metabones Speed Booster as well. But buy this one, it does make a difference that you can tell and I think you might be pleasantly surprised at the lower light performance it provides. Keep in mind that you will only be able to use Manual features of the lens if you choose the 'Nikon' version. Features such as 'Auto focus' and other lens info/features are not supported on the 'Nikon' version.

Q: 10. is this a Micro Four-Thirds to Micro Four-Thirds adapter?

A: No. It is Micro Four-Thirds to Nikon F or DX mount.
