A fast prime providing a classic portrait-length perspective, the FreeWalker 42.5mm f/1.2 Lens from Mitakon Zhongyi is designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras, where it provides an 85mm equivalent focal length. The bright f/1.2 maximum aperture offers extensive control over depth of field and focus position, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions. Its manual focus design is complemented by depth of field and focus distance scales, and a minimum focusing distance of 1.5' is ideal for working with close-up subjects. The optical helps to maintain a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy throughout the aperture range while a metal lens barrel and mount provide enhanced durability and handling during use. Pairing the bright maximum aperture and long focal length, this lens' ability to isolate subject matter is ideally suited to portraiture and other pictorial applications.

Portrait-length 42.5mm prime is compatible with mirrorless Micro Four Thirds digital cameras where it will provide an 85mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

A nine-elements-in-seven-groups design helps to maintain overall image clarity, color accuracy, and sharpness throughout the aperture range.

Manual focus design pairs with printed distance and depth of field scales for greater focusing precision as close as 1.5' away.

A 9-blade diaphragm contributes a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I use a7rii and want to buy this with FotodioX Lens Mount Adapter for Micro Four Third Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera . Is it still going to be full frame if I use this lens?

A: No. As per comment from Alec G., you will experience heavy vignetting. I am using this lens on a Sony a6000which has an APS-C sensorand I experience noticable but for me still acceptable vignetting. You will certainly experience much heavier vignetting on a full-frame camera like a a7rii.

Q: 2. There is quite a price gap between the black and silver versions. Are there any differences other than color between the two?

A: Not that I know of! I know the silver doesn't match silver body from Olympus- PEN-F and OMD's, maybe that's why.

Q: 3. Does it have auto-iris? That is, can I focus with the lens wide open, even if the camera is set to shoot at (say) f/2.8? I had some old manual lenses that need to be stopped down manually after focusing wide open. Is this one of those?

A: No, there is no auto iris functionality on this lens. You probably would not need it as the m43 cameras EVF should auto gain to the point you can see the correct exposure. This should aid in proper use of peaking and magnification for the manual focus confirmation.

Q: 4. Would this lens fit a Sony 7i or 9i camera?

A: I seriously doubt it. The Speedmaster has a Micro Four Thirds mount. I'm not familiar with Sony cameras, but I am pretty sure they have their own mount configuration. There MAY be available a lens mount adapter for the Sony body to M43 lenses. I would suggest you try Google or ask a camera expert. Sorry for not being able to help more.

Q: 5. does the aperture ring work on Olympus OM-D E-Mx cameras?

A: Put your camera on manual and set the shutter speed in camera. Use the aperture ring on the lens to manually set stop.

Q: 6. Is it compatible with Pen E-P5?

A: Absolutely! Must be used in Aperture Priority or Manual exposure modes as it is a manual focusing lens.

Q: 7. Is this similar to a Rokinon Cine lens? What is the difference with a Cine lens?

A: It is a basic photography manual focus lens, you can use it for video but with limited movement because the focus is very sensitive, Cine lenses usually much bigger in size, and they come with smooth focus. but The Mistaken advantage is the F/0.95

Q: 8. are the gears on the lens compatible with a follow focus?

A: The gears on this lens can be used allowing with a follow focus unit.

Q: 9. Is it plastic or metal?

A: Metal, and quite a heavy lens too. It's twice as heavy as my tiny Lumix GM1 camera, which makes it a bit uncomfortable to use!

Q: 10. Since this has a extruded rear element would this fit on a GH-4 body?

A: I bought this for my GH4 and works fine, beautiful lens!

If this is your first manual lens, it will take a bit of getting used to - but once you do, it starts to change the way you look at things. The control you have & character you get out of this lens is more than just fun - it's like whole new activity you've embarked on & changes your camera. You can sweep through the focal range in one motion if you hold it right, which is very nice for video - you can get that smooth adjustment without having to take your hand off. It definitely benefits from having a set of filters to help open the aperture when outside in the sunlight. Without a filter, it improves your low-light abilities. Also: the size is satisfying & build quality is sturdy.

I use a lot of adapted lenses on my Panasonic GH5 mainly for videos. I already have the superstar combo of Metabones Speedbooster .71 and the Sigma 18-35 art lens. Bought my first native MFT lens, the Panasonic 42.5 f1.7 recently. Love it. The size and ease of use for run n gun filming. Was looking for a 25mm for the same reasons. Bought this for the good manual focus I kept reading about as I always use MF for videos and that was a drawback on the Panasonic lenses. The video quality of this lens just blew me away. Fantastic build quality, and smooth functioning focus and aperture rings remind me of the various vintage glasses that I also use. And the phenomenal low light ability of this lens is a HUGE bonus for MFT shooters. I wish Zhongyi make a similar 17.5mm lens. This lens costs a fraction of what the Voigtlander costs and you get a lot for your money. Totally love this lens.

I'm not a professional, but my take on this lens is that it is easy to use, very well built, and is exactly what I needed for the video needs I had. I'm using it with the BMPCC4K and it couldn't be easier to get a great cinematic feel with this lens. It's crisp and the f0.95 makes for some great depth of field transitions and has been great for some good b-roll. Highly recommend, especially for the price.

With an insanely low f/0.95, I expect to be using this lens a lot. It is fully manual and as a new videographer I realized that the lack of automation would force me to learn the basics. I haven't found them so tough so far.

I needed a fast prime to go with the kit zoom that came with my new Lumix GX9, and I liked the way this one looked. With manual-only focus and manual-only aperture selection, this is definitely an old school lens, but that's what I was after. It's not the sharpest tool in my kit, and there is some distortion and chromatic aberration, but it's to be expected in such a small, light, fast lens at this price point. And the bragging rights of having an f/0.95 lens are worth it.
