Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this recorder compare to the Tascam DR-05?

A: Audio can be a very subjective thing, but I would have to say I like the sound of the Zoom H1n a little better, and also find it easier to use.

Q: 2. Is a remote control available for this device?

A: There is not a remote control unit for the Zoom H1n.

Q: 3. can this be mounted on a boom?

A: There is a threaded 1/4-20 inch female connection on the back of this recorder, so it can be mounted on a boom. If the boom stand has a 5/8-inch male end, than an adapter such as the CAMVATE 5/8" Female to 1/4"-20 Male Mic Stand Adapter, BH #CAC0988. For a boom pole use the Impact Small 3/8"-16 Female Threaded Adapter to 1/4"-20 Male Threaded Post, BH #IMCA103.

Q: 4. Can an iPhone live output into this to record everything outputting from "what you hear" on the iPhone like running into a mixer

A: Yes, you can send audio out of the iPhone and into the input of the Zoom H1n Portable Handy Recorder by using a cable like the Thore 3.5mm Audio to Lightning Connector Aux Cable (B&H # THRC12GM). This cable is directional and it will only work to send audio out of the iPhone, not to send audio into the iPhone.

Q: 5. Will this record to the internal SD card and connect as a USB audio interface at the same time?

A: No, it will not record to both a microSD card and pass audio via the interface mode at the same time.

Q: 6. What is difference between grey and black 2018 model?

A: I have both the black and grey recorders and I am not aware of any difference between the two other than the color. Side by side they have identical controls and interface. Having used both I'm not aware of any difference in the recording ability of either. I'd say they are equal. I would recommend the Zoom APH-1n Accessory Pack, if only for the case and windscreen. It's a snug fitting case, doesn't increase the bulk of the recorder much and affords you better protection. The other items are useful but the case and windscreen make it worth it. As always, B&H is the way to go!

Q: 7. Does this recorder support TRS or TRRS?

A: all the 3.5mm jacks on this unit are TRS.

Q: 8. This has 2.5 Volt plug-in power for mic. Does this use TRRS connector or is the DC voltage carried on the audio channels?

A: This uses a standard TRS connection for the mic/line input. Voltage would be carried on the tip of the connection.

Q: 9. Where is this made?

A: The Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone is manufactured in China.

Q: 10. The instructions say that you can use up to a 32Gb SDHC card (i.e., the list of 'supported cards' go no larger than 32Gb). Is that an actual limit or can higher capacity SDHC cards be used? I have a 256Gb EVO U-3 card that would give me hours and hours of high quality audio, which is needed to record concerts.

A: That is correct, 32gb is the largest card that is compatible with the H1n. Recording Time WAV 44.1 kHz/16-Bit: 1 Hr 34 Mins per GB (Stereo) WAV 48 kHz/24-Bit: 57.5 Mins per GB (Stereo) WAV 96 kHz/24-Bit: 28.5 Mins per GB (Stereo) MP3 128 kb/s: 17 Hrs 21.5 Mins per GB (Stereo) MP3 256 kb/s: 8 Hrs 40.5 Mins per GB (Stereo) MP3 320 kb/s: 6 Hrs 56.5 Mins per GB (Stereo)
