A: Yes, that max height would include the center column. I don't use the center column, and with the bottom of the legs 38 apart, using a ball head, the bottom of the camera sits at 53 . I'm 5'9 and this is my 2nd one - it's been a very comfortable tripod.

A: The edge of the disc is very slightly thicker than the main surface as you point out. However it isn't really an abrupt lip, but it slopes up the edge. The flat part of the disc is approximately 1 15/16 . My guess is Gitzo designed it that way to more securely lock down a ball head or gimbel head on the tripod using bit of a taper fit. I give them the benefit of knowing what they are doing, but you should make your own judgement call. My ball head and gimbel head seem to be very secure.

Q: 4. I want to know why the 30TB is FASTER than the 10TB? Is the difference in hardware beyond simply using 5x2TB drives or 5x6TB drives??? Can you please explain? I was thinking about purchasing the 10TB and then upgrading the drives myself at a later time. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

A: Disk capacity does have an influence on the speed of an array. The 5Big chassis is the same for both the 10, and 30TB configurations. Personally I would purchase the higher capacity if you either need the speed, or if you think the full capacity will be needed in the future. It is a pain at a minimum to backup an array to change the drives.

A: It's not required but you can use the Benro GDHAD1 Tripod Spacer (B&H # BEGDHAD1) on the Benro TMA37C Series 3 Mach3 Carbon Fiber Tripod for extra height and comfort when using the Benro GD3WH 3-Way Geared Head (B&H # BEGD3WH).
