The BrightEye 46 3G/HD/SD/ASI Electrical to Optical Converter from Ensemble Designs is an electrical-to-optical converter and distribution amplifier that can be used with standard-definition signals, 3Gbps & 1.5Gbps high-definition signals, or ASI signals.

Its video input signal is reclocked and delivered to (4) simultaneous BNC outputs and is also output to an optical LC/UCP connector. The optical output can drive a single-mode fiber up to 12.42 miles (20km) away. When used with an optical launch power attenuator, multi-mode fiber can be used to achieve longer transmission distances.

Front panel indicators show the presence of an input signal and power. The unit does not feature a USB port nor any interface for BrightEye Windows or Mac software.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this convert HDMI 1080p to HDMI 1080i?

A: Yes, it will converter HDMI 1080p to HDMI and SDI simultaneously to 1080i.

Q: 2. Is there a USB 3.X version of this?

A: No, the Ultrastudio is only thunderbolt 3 based.

Q: 3. Does this work as video input for iPad PRO 2020 ?

A: It does not. This will not work with an iPad Pro 2020.

Q: 4. As a recorder, how large can the file be?

A: I got it as a capture device, I don’t believe it is a recorder in the sense of being a recording device. Name is a misnomer. Works great as a capture card into OBS. Has to have a genuine Thunderbolt cable though, not simply USB-C to USB-C

Q: 5. Will this device output zoom video to SDI so I can monitor zoom on a different screen?

A: Ok, but I have a macbook pro with only thunderbolt 3 ports.

Q: 6. Can I use this to take an output from ProPresenter with SDI Alpha Key to bring into a different streaming PC?

A: This is not the correct device to output both fill and key since one output is SDI and the other HDMI. They would both have the same signal and are not separate to the software.

Q: 7. Does the Mac see this as another system monitor out available in the Display Settings, or is it only available to programs that look for a video out (like OBS, or ProPresenter, etc)?

A: It is not for an extended desktop. It is available to software programs that support Blackmagic Desktop Video devices like Resolve. There are many others.

Q: 8. How would I get this to work on windows 10?

A: If your Windows 10 machine has Thunderbolt, the device should appear as an option.

Q: 9. Will this convert 1080i 59.94 to 1080i 29.97?

A: No. As Brian C. mentioned there is a 1080PsF@29.97 or 1080p@29.97 but not 1080i. The progressive segmented frame (PsF) is ideal when converting interlaced to progressive I think...

Q: 10. Regarding audio-video sync, does the audio stay synchronized with the video delay of two frames?

A: Yes it stays in sync with the video as both are processed at the same time. There are no sync issues but the output is not in sync with the source due to processing.
