The Tiffen 138mm Ultra Contrast 1/4 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce contrast while photographing an image or while recording video. By distributing ambient illumination to darker areas within a scene, this filter is useful in helping to uniformly balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows. Detail is increased within shadow regions while flare and halation around highlights is purposely limited.

This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there is built in key board in this model?

A: There is no keyboard.

Q: 2. Why is there no extended warranty being offered for this camcorder? Not being able to buy an extended warranty is a deal-buster for me.

A: Your CC likely adds a year to the manufacturer's warrantee. B&H now has Allstate option (above).

Q: 3. hi, sony ax53 is its real 4k image.

A: The Sony FDR-AX53 4K Ultra HD Handycam Camcorder can shoot in 4K UHD 3840 x 2160p. While this is not DCI 4K, this is still considered 4K on the consumer end.

Q: 4. What country made Sony FDR-AX53?

A: China.

Q: 5. does it have frame grab?

A: Yes. While shooting video, you can press the PHOTO button and it will save a still image to the SD card. Takes about 5 seconds to save it. This works in all recording modes except 4K 100Mbps. If in 4K 60Mbps, it will work.

Q: 6. Hi, does the AX53 provide hdmi output signal and AV output while shooting 4K? I use AX100 and it doesn't :-(

A: People are saying it cannot output live HDMI video when recording 4K. But the older AV may possibly work, so at least you have something. I don't know.

Q: 7. If we are trying to record in-store footage of our products and interview people like a mini infomercial, then use it so people can view on our website and Facebook page, is this 4K camcorder overkill or not? If so, what other brand/model would you suggest? If you feel the 4K is the way to go, do you feel the Sony or upcoming Panasonic is better?

A: It's an excellent camera. It helps in lower light settings, such as in various areas of the store where lighting may not be so bright, but still, it would look more professional if you added a light on top, so everything would shine nice and bright, as you walked around videoing products. It also has excellent optical image stabilizer - much better than a few hundred dollar camera, which can hep if you'r walking around. Also focuses very well - smoothly - not suddenly. Using a monopod will help keep it straight (but may get into the way if you want to go up and down shelves). When doing interviews, you must use a lavalier mic, such as Deity Microphones V.Lav Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Microprocessor BH #DEVLA - gets the sound much better as it is closer.

Q: 8. Can you import 4k media from this camera into iMovie without problems?

A: Havent tried with this one but i have done it with non-4k sony camcorders that have the same file type. Other than that, i am very happy with the image quality from this relatively small and light cam. The BOSS inage stabilizer is simply amazing.

Q: 9. Does it come with a battery charger

A: No, You have to buy it separately.

Q: 10. I want to buy a magnus VC-20-SCP zoom controller for a tripod and connect it to a FDR-AX53 camcorder, If i've read correctly that can be done using a LANC port on the camera, does this camera have that port? If it doesn't I understand that it can be connected using an AVR adapter, which method would i be able to use with this camera?

A: This is information about the new multiport on the Sony FDR-AX53. I would contact Sony Tech support to verify this information. I called them with a problem with my 4k recording issue and they were very helpful to resolve it.The 2014 camcorders from Sony still have the Multi-Port jack, however, Sony has made the VMC-AVM1 adapter cable incompatible with the 2014, 2015 and 2016 camcorders and they have changed the LANC interface to a non-standard format. So the only remote that will work with the 2014, 2015 and 2016 camcorders is the RM-VPR1 from Sony. This has a very short cable length.
