$477.00 $610.56

The Audix D2 is well suited for use in stage, studio, and broadcast applications, and features the frequency and sensitivity response required for accurately reproducing signals from drums and percussion instruments. The mic has a dynamic element capable of reproducing signals with high transient peaks, while maintaining a clear, punchy, and warm sound.

The D2 offers a frequency response of 68 Hz to 18 kHz which features a slight bump in the mid-bass frequencies. The contoured mid-bass response accentuates the tonal frequencies associated with instruments that have a percussive nature, such as rack toms, congas, floor toms, saxophone, brass, horns, as well as guitar and bass cabinets. The hypercardioid polar pattern provides a tight pickup area at the front of the capsule for isolation and feedback control, and it is equipped with a VLM (Very Low Mass) diaphragm for natural, accurate sound reproduction. Ambiance and noise at the off-axis sections of the microphone are greatly reduced, resulting in high signal-to-noise ratio.

The hypercardioid polar pattern is effective in eliminating noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone

The D2 features a frequency response of 68 Hz to 18 kHz. A mid-bass bump accentuates the tonal response of floor toms, congas, and more

The D2 can accurately handle signals with sound pressure levels registering at 144 dB. Transient peaks are reproduced without distortion due to overload

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the power cable permanently attached to the light or is it exchangeable ? I am back and forth between the US and Europe and would like to be able to use the lights by switching out the cables when traveling back and forth.

A: Hi Darnell, the cable is changable and not afixed to the lights. We use them all over the world and have different cables for different regions. They're great lights!

Q: 2. Does your D2 fan runs in standby mode? Also I hear a rattle inside the unit

A: Yes, the fan in my D2 runs as long as the unit is plugged in. A firmware update for the D2 improved a color temp mismatch between it and my D4 powerpack/Acute head system and I hoped it would also stop the fan after the D2 had cooled, but no. I've gotten used to unplugging the D2 when I feel it has cooled off. A pain definitely but not that big a deal, for me at least, the fan is noisy enough that I haven't yet forgotten to unplug it.

Q: 3. The power cord that is referenced, is that to recharge the batteries or to power the lights?

A: The D2 is electric only, no batteries. The B1 Unit is the one with the built-in battery (but has no ability to plug into a wall).

Q: 4. To sync, can I use the radioflash from other brands or only Profoto?

A: Using the Profoto air remote would be the most useful as the D2 has a Profoto receiver built into the head. However if you wanted to use a different transmitter and receiver, you could as there is a 3.5mm sync port on the D2.

Q: 5. Can you plug this light right into a wall?

A: Yes, it can be plugged into the wall directly.

Q: 6. I assume this will respond to the Profoto Connect Pro remote?-- not just the one listed as "essential" here

A: Yes the Profoto Connect Remote can fire this Profoto D2 1000 Air Monolight.

Q: 7. I saw the profoto d2 custom picture . Is the handle broken ?

A: No. That is the design on the unique strobe unit.

Q: 8. The price is pre tax

A: The pricing for the items on our site is before any applicable taxes. For a price quote, please email us directly at sales@bhphoto.com with the item number you wish to purchase, billing and shipping information, as well as a contact phone number.

Q: 9. Are Pocketwizard Plus II Transceivers compatible with these lights?

A: Yes, they are compatible.

Q: 10. I've always wondered how the TTL in Profoto heads have any idea how much light to produce. From my understanding, the TTL information is coming from the camera's computer using light coming Through The Lens. So, that information is correct for the distance of the camera sensor to the subject. But, the camera's computer doesn't know where the Profoto head is located. If the head is the same distance to subject as the camera sensor, then it should be accurate, but if the light is further away, the result should be incorrect on the dark side, and conversely , if the head is closer to the subject, it should overexpose, all using the same TTL information. My question for speed is, at what wattage per second is the D2 achieving 1/63,000 sec (500 W/S model), or 1/50,000 sec (1000 W/S model)? With my B1's, if I need fast flash speed, I sometimes need to gang up 2-4 heads to keep my light output at a usable level. I would love it if the flash was controlled to actually cut off at the faster time, without a light tail. That technology would enable higher output while maintaining the short flash duration. If the D2 has the ability to hit a fast flash duration while at full power, I would add it to my studio immediately.

A: According to Profotos specifications for the D2, the 500 AirTTL unit has a flash duration of 1/63,000s at 1 watt/sec and while the 1000 AirTTL unit has a flash duration of 1/50,000 at 2 watts/sec. Both of these measurements are applicable when the monolights are set to freeze mode.
