Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. 1. With lack of weather sealing, is the lens more susceptible to dust damage? 2. Is this lens upgraded from previous version, I’ve read comments and watched review videos that it loses its Image stabilization after intense use? Not sure if true or not.
A: I have this lens for about 6 years and have not had any issues with it , there is no mark II for this lens , the IS works fine for me
Q: 2. What would this lens be best used for in photography?
A: Because of the large opening of the lens 2.8, I bought it to use at stage plays that my daughter and grandson appear in. It works perfectly, to ensure the sharpness of the image, I have to jack up the ISO on my 7D Mark II. Great lens.
Q: 3. Will this lens work on a Canon M50?
A: Not unless you have an EF to EFM adapter.
Q: 4. Will this lens work with a Canon Rebel T3?
A: it works very well with my Canon Rebel T3i
Q: 5. I have a canon 6D with the kit lens 24-105mm F/4L lens. Is this EF17-40 F/4L make a lot of difference in image quality as well as wide angle coverage and depth of field for just the 7MM difference. I do a lot of travel and landscape photos.
A: Aside from the difference in focal lengths, the 17-40mm f/4L will give you a closer minimum focusing distance than the 24-105mm will. However, the 24-105mm features image stabilization, whereas the 17-40mm does not. Both of these lenses are great choices for landscape and travel photography, as they both feature wide angle and standard focal lengths, as well as a constant f/4 aperture. The 24-105mm may give you more versatility if you want a lens that has more range on the telephoto end, however, if you are shooting primarily wider shots, the 17-40mm is excellent.
Q: 6. Do I need a mount adaptor for the EF 7-40mm to be used with Canon RP? Would it make the lens 17-40 longer and bulker?
A: The excellent Canon 17-40mm (I have had one for years) is made for cameras with a mirror box. It must have that same distance on any camera otherwise it will not be able to focus to infinity. So if you chop off the mirror, in order to maintain that distance, you have to add it back in the form of an adapter. The advantage is you get use your present lenses. The disadvantage is you do add bulk to the camera/lens combination. However, when you can, sell the 17-40mm and get a native R mount lens.
Q: 7. Video
A: Heck yes! Ive shot multiple documentaries and corporate videos with this lens. Keep the f stop off 2.8 through shutter and iso. You may also need neutral density filters. On brilliant sunny days this lens needs help in order to shoot at 5.6 or 4.
Q: 8. Does this lense work with T7i?
A: All EF-S lenses are compatible with the T7i.
Q: 9. Can this be used with Canon Rebel
A: Yes it can be used with Canon Rebel models (film and digital). The Canon 17-40mm f4 USM L series lens is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras (film and digital).
Q: 10. Is this a good zoom lens for a Canon Rebel t5i camera shooting in limited light like an auditorium or in a movie theater without a flash where the lights have been dimmed?
A: I would recommend purchasing the brightest lens possible for your stated usage needs. Of the options we carry with a similar focal length and compatible for use on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T5 DSLR camera, I would recommend the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF, B&H # SI183518DCC, for your usage needs. The constant f/1.8 aperture is 2.3 f-stops brighter than the f/4 aperture used on the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens. As an example, if your shooting conditions require you to have an exposure of f/4 at 1/13 sec. to get a properly exposed image, and there is a chance you can get blurred images due to a slow shutter speed, the Sigma lens would give you the ability to shoot an equivalent exposure of f/1.8 at 1/60 sec., which is much faster to hand-hold this lens at any of its focal lengths with minimum blur from hand movement. You may further use a higher ISO setting to assist in obtaining an exposure with a shutter speed fast enough for your specific lighting conditions. However, do note that the lighting conditions you list above are extreme, so you may need a higher-than-normal ISO setting, and which is why the brighter Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF would be a better option for your indicated usage needs.
