Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens come with a lens hood? I don't see one in the pictures. I just bought the lens but it will need a lens hood.

A: Yes it does come with a lens hood.

Q: 2. How is distortion from this lens, the same as the cheap 18-105 lens from sony?

A: We are certain the performance of this lens will comply with the high standards implicit in pro video production.

Q: 3. Do people typically buy a large ND filter for this lens if they don't have an internal one? Or do people use a matte boxe instead? Also if I were to use this with the Sony a7rii, would I need a rig?

A: The choice of matte box or screw-in filter is a choice that is up to you and your needs. The fastest, easiest, most compact, most affordable solution is to use a screw-in 95mm ND filter of the strength you need. This works well when you are working by yourself while doing events/wedding/documentaries/corporate/news. If you are doing something like a cinema movie where you have a bit more time or you can pay attention to the image quality to a higher degree, a matte box allows you to use more than one filter, the use of grads, and when you include top and side flaps, much better control of keeping contrast-robbing flare off the front filter. Regarding the Sony a7 R II, this is one of those situations where the camera is mounted to the lens; not vice-versa. You can mount the lens directly to the tripods quick release plate using the lenss foot/handle and then mount the camera to the rear and finally screw-in the filter. You can get a clamp-on matte box for use directly on the lens or if there is more money in the budget you can get a 15mm LWS rig to hold the matte box, the lens and the camera.

Q: 4. Will this lens work on a Sony A7S ii?

A: It's an emount lens so, it will fit and work, but this was designed for a smaller sensor, so you will get heavy vignetting if you don't shoot in cropped, or super 35mm.

Q: 5. Would this cover full frame on an fx9?

A: It will not. This covers a Super 35mm sized sensor only.

Q: 6. Is there a way to adjust back focus?

A: There is not.

Q: 7. For FS7: Is there an icon indicator in the viewfinder when the OSS physical switch (on the lens barrel) is ON ?

A: Hi John, Yes FS7 does have Image stabilization mode indicator on the screen. If you follow the link below the indicator will be the one numbered "36" on the screen. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/860623/Sony-Pxw-Fs7.html?page=13#manual

Q: 8. Do you have an alternate lens hood for this lens - that either clips on or can screw into the 95mm thread?

A: This is the Hood Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS hood lens. Sony ALC-SH148 Lens Hood BH #SOALCSH148. We have hood options like the following models that could work with the 95mm threads Link - https://bhpho.to/3SGhfoP . Also you could consider a 15mm Rod based Matte box solution. Matte box Link - https://bhpho.to/3y2HoGF

Q: 9. Does this lens work to shoot 4k and HD in the Super 35 crop mode on the Sony FX9 camera, and can the footage be easily matched to the footage coming out of other Full Frame Sony Cameras like the FX6 and the FX3? Any problems with this lens on this 6K Sensor camera?

A: Yes this lens will shoot sharp video in the 4K or HD in the super35 mode on the FX9. The FX3 and the FX6 have similar color science and settings to the FX9 therefore it is easy to match all 3 cameras together if you plan to use them together on a production. However the 18-110mm does not cover the FX9's full frame sensor which means that it doesn't take advantage of everything the camera has to offer. The Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens (BH #SO281354 • MFR #SELP28135G) is a much better fit for the FX9 as it will allow you to utilize the full frame sensor. Keep in mind that when you use the 28-135mm in full frame mode on the FX9 it will have the same field of view as the 18-110 in the super 35 crop mode. In conclusion, the 18-110mm can create superb images on the FX9 but will limit you to the super 35mm crop mode. The 28-135mm is designed to work on cameras like the FX9 and will utilize the camera to its full potential.

Q: 10. What's the difference between this lens and the one that comes with the FS-5 Kit?

A: The kit lens is the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS. The 18-110mm offers 6.1x high zoom ratio, high res suited for 4k movie production, SMO, three separate focus, iris and zoom rings, SteadyShotTM in-lens image stabilization, and a lightweight design with dust and moisture resistance.
